Vilnius Castle | Vilnius, Lithuania
Being a symbol not only of the city but also of the state, Gediminas’ Tower is mentioned in traditional Lithuanian poems and songs. It all started with the Grand Duke of Lithuania – Gediminas, who had a dream, hinting that he should start building a city in this place. First, he erected wooden fortifications, which later were turned into construction, made of bricks.
White Tower light trails | Thessaloniki, Greece
In ancient times on the place of the White Tower there has been a Byzantine fortification. In the 15th century, when the city fell under Ottoman Rule, the construction has been used as a prison and also as a place for mass executions, which explains why its name was ‘The Red Tower’ then. As soon as the Greeks were free from the Ottoman Rule in the beginning of the 20th century, they whitened the construction and gave it the name
White Tower and the National Theater Of Northern Greece | Thessaloniki, Greece
Some images are captured like magic – quickly and without hesitation. However, that was not the case with my photo shooting of the White Tower and the National Theater in Thessaloniki. So, I was walking up and down, trying to capture the perfect composition at the best light, which may have looked funny for an outside eye. Finally, during the blue hour, I took a photo that satisfied me – with the city lights giving this violet shade around Thessaloniki
Sunset from the Eptapyrgio Castle | Thessaloniki, Greece
Dating back to the Antiquity, Eptapyrgio or “Fortress of Seven Towers” is a construction from the Byzantine and Ottoman eras with actually ten towers. As for the Rotunda, also known as Agios Georgios, it’s worth noting that this is the oldest monument in Thessaloniki, Greece, built by the Roman emperor Galerius in the 4th century.
Church of Panagia Chalkeon | Thessaloniki, Greece
We found this Greek Orthodox church thanks to an app that led us around the city and helped us discover also many other such sights in Thessaloniki. Built in the 11th century, the architecture of this Thessaloniki church is of the typical for the region Macedonian style. The locals call it “the Red Church” because the entire building is made of bricks.
City Wall | Split, Croatia
Patience is a valuable quality, especially for photographers. I say it because taking this particular photo was a real challenge – groups of people kept on entering and leaving, or just standing in front of the small souvenir shop behind the gate. Nevertheless, we had plenty of time and besides – it was a nice, warm evening. The right moment finally came and I took my photo, trying to capture the ancient atmosphere.
Gardens By The Bay | Singapore
While visiting Singapore we were impressed by many things, but the Gardens by the Bay were the culmination of our tour. Daria and I went there during the daytime and then we waited for my favorite blue hour to take photos. The trees you see in the picture are illuminated when the sun goes down. Then the light-music show begins, with bright colors that change according to classical music pieces.
Malá Strana Alley | Prague, Czech Republic
Tourists from around the globe visit Prague Old Town, attracted by its well-preserved historic sights. When you cross the Charles bridge though, you will find yourself in a bit different world. Malá Strana is known for colorful streets and cozy cafés. However, it is also a place with ornamental buildings in which are embassies.
Jiřího z Poděbrad Square | Prague, Czech Republic
The name of the Vinohrady district of Prague literally means ‘vineyards’ in English. While nowadays this is an urban area, in the middle ages this land was covered in vineyards. On the photo you can also see the Roman Catholic Church “Nejsvětějšího Srdce Páně” or “Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord”. Another significant city sight, visible here, is the Žižkov Television Tower, adding a high-tech touch to the landscape.
Kotor ruins – daytime view | Kotor, Montenegro
Fortifications of Kotor are remarkable construction, influenced by several architectural styles, with the Venetian style predominantly. Unfortunately, severe earthquakes have damaged them in the 16th and the 17th centuries. The consequences of the most recent one from April 1979 are still visible on the Kotor Fortress.
Kotor panorama – daylight | Kotor, Montenegro
Why choose this Adriatic Sea port for a holiday or vacation? Probably because of the nature – you have the Kotor Bay, surrounded by mountains which height ranges from 1000m to 1700m. Additionally, those of you, who like medieval culture and history, would really appreciate the well-preserved Kotor Old Town and the Fortifications.
Kotor Northern Gate before sunrise | Kotor, Montenegro
Built in the 16th century as a memory of Kotor’s victory over the well-known Turkish admiral Hajrudin Barbarosa, it’s impressive that the Northern Gate is still in excellent condition. As typical for medieval times construction, next to the Kotor Northern Gate there is a moat with turquoise water. I chose this spot in the valley under Saint John’s Hill for my photo session because it offers a clear view to Kotor Fortress.
Kotor Fortress From St. John’s Hill | Kotor, Montenegro
The entire complex of towers, gates, ramparts, etc., together with the Castle of San Giovanni and Kotor Old Town is part of UNESCO World Heritage since 1979. Unfortunately, Kotor Fortress has been damaged by several severe earthquakes but also because of erosion. If you plan to climb up St. John’s Hill in order to reach the Fortress, be very careful and watch your steps.
The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon | Kotor, Montenegro
We visited this Adriatic Sea port right after New Year Eve, which explains the festive lights on the buildings. Consecrated in 1166, the Kotor Cathedral was built in honor of Saint Tryphon, who is considered by the locals as the patron and protector of the city. Before that, in the 10th century, an older church existed there. It has been keeping Saint Tryphon’s remains.
Kotor Castle in the clouds | Kotor, Montenegro
Kotor’s Castle of San Giovanni is one of the must-see places. That is why I wanted to capture its beauty, waiting for the moment when the sun was setting gently, illuminating the mountain with warm light. The composition would not be the same without the rain clouds, covering St. John Hill.
Kotor Bay View At Night | Kotor, Montenegro
Those of you, who have been to Kotor in Montenegro, would remember its well-preserved medieval constructions, which attract tourists and people of art from around the world. What can I say, same as all of them, I couldn’t resist the charm of this Adriatic Sea port. In order to catch the special beauty of Kotor Bay during the blue hour, Daria and I spent almost the entire day on the slopes of the mountain above Kotor.
New Year 2017 | Kotor, Montenegro
If you want to have a different New Year celebration, choose a historic place as Kotor, Montenegro. What I especially liked about our visit in this picturesque city is that it wasn’t so crowded as it is during the tourist season. The Kotor gates – the entrances to the Old Town, are three. What you see here is the famous Kotor Sea Gate – the main entrance, constructed in 1555.
Exterior Of The Zappeion Exhibiton Hall | Athens, Greece
I took this bright exterior image of one of Athens’ most notable buildings in a warm, sunny day. The list of cultural and sports events, of political ceremonies and commercial shows, housed in the Zappeion Exhibition Hall in Athens is really long. Even if that’s not enough to attract your interest to this magnificent building, I recommend you to see it, while sightseeing in the city, just for its elegant, neoclassical architecture.
Zappeion Hall – the atrium | Athens, Greece
This magnificent building is located in the heart of the capital of Greece, surrounded by the National Gardens of Athens. While researching the places to photograph I found a picture of Hall in Zappeion and I couldn’t resist visiting this place as one of the first things to do during this cloudy day in the capital of Greece. The central atrium you see on the photo is of 984 square meters. It has been build on two levels – an
Ancient theatre – Odeon Of Herodes Atticus | Athens, Greece
The Odeon of Herodes Atticusis among the best examples of Antique architecture. Its construction works were finalized in 161 AD. The ancient theatre was renovated in 1950, in order to be preserved for the future and to serve as a very special venue of cultural events. This ancient theatre in Athens has been actively used as an amphitheater on which stage many world-known musicians, singers and opera stars have performed.
The Temple of Hephaestus | Athens, Greece
Completed in the 415 BC, this marble building is of high architectural and archaeological significance. Among them are: Vermont State House in the USA; Penshaw Monument in England; New Parliament House in Edinburgh.
The Panathenaic Stadium – a marble miracle | Athens, Greece
As a person who likes big sporting events very much, I find this marble stadium simply amazing. I guess that all fans of the Olympic games and their history, would love to see the impressive Panathenaic Stadium in Athens with their own eyes. ‘The marble stadium’ is the only one stadium in the world, built entirely of marble. It should be noted that the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 were held there.
Mount Lycabettus | Athens, Greece
What a colorful mosaic… That’s what I said when I saw the fantastic panorama view of the Mount Lycabettus in Athens. This photo was taken from the famous Akropolis and you can see the hill, surrounded by bright colored buildings, typical for the capital of Greece. Personally, I was most amazed by the fact, that there’s a hill in the center of a capital city. Mount Lycabettus is a really unique formation and if you still haven’t visited the charming
The Monastiraki Square at night | Athens, Greece
Same as the colossal metropolis New York, Athens also is a city that never sleeps. Looking at this colorful photo, I remember how fascinated I was, watching a city so ancient, living to the fullest every time of the day and night! Enjoying the bright coloring of that image, I hope to go back to the charming capital of Greece, to the vivid Monastiraki Square, full of life, laughter and delicious food.
