Langkawi Stars | Langkawi Island, Malaysia
During our stay in the heavenly Berjaya Langkawi Resort on the Malaysian Island Langkawi, I decided to give the impressive art of astrophotography a go and it seems I couldn’t have picked a more beautiful night for my first try. When looking at the image afterwards, I was especially surprised and fascinated by the illuminated purple firmament, which gave a certain magical feel to starry night sky.
Rector’s Palace | Dubrovnik, Croatia
Daria fell in love with the facade of the building, which skilfully unites the architectural styles of the Gothic, Baroque and the Renaissance era. I used the deserted streets of Dubrovnik in the early morning hours to capture the Rector’s Palace in a way it might have been resting peacefully on the shiny pavement back in its days in the 16th century.
Chalets on Water | Langkawi Island, Malaysia
We were lucky enough to spend eight nights in paradise, in the form of one of the water chalets of the Berjaya Langkawi Resort on Pulau Langkawi off the northwestern coast of Malaysia. From the comfort of the bungalow’s patio I was able to take breathtakingly beautiful pictures. It didn’t matter what direction I looked, there were stunning scenes everywhere. One of them was this cloudy sky over the Langkawi Island, Malaysia which seemed to have caught fire.
Prague Castle Gate | Czech Republic
During our last stay in Prague I decided to make my way to Prague Castle, which was built in the 9th century as the largest ancient castle in the world, before any day trippers would be there in order to capture it in the golden light of the shy morning sun. I love to get my camera out before the day dawns and watch the world slowly wake up – to me this is very special.
Old City Nuremberg | Germany
Nuremberg, the second largest city in Bavaria, is known as the cultural and economic capital in Franconia and one of the most important cities in all of Germany. Because of its picturesque Old City with a great number of historic buildings, Nuremberg is always worth a visit. The picture was taken at the bottom of the famous Nuremberg Castle – its hall is visible in the background.
Charles Bridge | Prague, Czech Republic
As I have mentioned before, there is hardly anything more exciting to me than watching a city wake up in the early hours of the morning. Especially when the city is so close to my heart, like the capital city of the Czech Republic – Prague. The image shows the Charles Bridge, one of the oldest stone bridges in Europe, which sprawls over the river Vitava in the middle of the Golden City. It connects the Old City with the
Nyhavn | Copenhagen, Denmark
Originally the branch canal Nyhavn was trenched in 1673 to connect the marketplace Kongens Nytorv to the busy port of Copenhagen in order to boost the trade. Even though Nyhavn never went on to be a big port, due to its limited size and capacity it still led to a lot of businessmen settling down along the promenade. The typical colorful gabled houses were mostly built in the 18th and 19th century and are one of the most important sights
Bâtiment des Forces Motrices BFM | Geneva, Switzerland
The Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, also known as BFM in Geneva, is a building, which immediately put me under its spell. During an evening stroll through the second largest city in Switzerland the sumptuous illuminated building in the middle of the river Rhône caught my photographic eye in a heartbeat. The BFM was originally constructed between 1883 and 1892 as a hydroelectric power plant and was used as such until 1960.
Aljaferia Palace | Zaragoza, Spain
The palace is built on foundation walls of a tower house, which dates back to the Moorish Kingdom in the 9th century. The original building has been expanded and altered many times since its establishment during the Taifa Kingdom in 1065. Especially after the recapture by the catholic kings in 1118 its design was remarkably influenced by the immigrating Muslims and their renowned Mudejar style.
Gefion Fountain | Copenhagen, Denmark
The wishing well is officially the biggest monument in Copenhagen and tells a story about the country’s mythology with its sculptures. The Fountain shows a scene, in which the Aesir Damsel Gefion cuts a trench in between the Island of Zealand and Sweden with her plow, which is led by her three sons who had been turned into bulls. She cuts Zealand off the mainland forever and created the biggest Island in Denmark.
Port D’Alcudia | Mallorca, Spain
This picture was taken during our one-week stay in Port D’Alcudia in the North of the Balearic Island Mallorca. I already noticed the unique sunsets with their vibrant orange, yellow and red colours during the first couple of evenings we spend in the small Spanish provincial town. I didn’t really have a choice and just had to capture this stunning sight with my camera.
The Photographer’s Eye | Valencia, Spain
This picture of the L’Hemisfèric in the Spanish city of Valencia, is a picture I could look at for hours. The unique architecture offers so much detail without losing its minimalist character that you just never grow tired of looking at it. This very impressive building was designed by Santiago Calatrava and was opened as the first building within the City of Arts and Sciences on 16th April 1998.
Sounds of Wroclaw | Poland
Wrocław has one of the biggest market squares in Europe and its city hall is the biggest one in Poland. Late at night the city wraps itself in silence and is only disturbed now and again by the hushed voices of people returning home from a night out. I wanted to capture the intriguing atmosphere of this place, but also show as much as possible of this very beautiful market square painted in the crisp autumn light at night.
Dubrovnik at night | Dubrovnik, Croatia
To be precise, the title should read: Dubrovnik in the very early morning because this picture was taken at exactly 4:58 am on a morning during the summer. Even at that hour of the day, you meet quite a few tourists on their way into another eventful day of their holiday. This is probably due to the high number of cruise ships which stop in the harbor of Dubrovnik.
Tumski-Bridge | Wroclaw, Poland
When you visit the Old City of Wroclaw you will discover many historical buildings and cultural treasures as well as a buzzing nightlife. One of my favourite pieces of architecture is the Tumski-Bridge. Every time we are in Wroclaw we take a walk to the so-called „Cathedral Island“, for which this beautiful bridge has to be crossed.
Diocletian’s Palace Ruins early in the morning | Split, Croatia
This photo was taken very (very) early in the morning, but 4 o’clock seemed to be the perfect time to capture the roman Diocletian’s palace in Split in the right light. The palace made from marble and limestone shines in a unique and unusual way during the light of the moon. This scene together with the clear night sky and a million twinkling stars was the perfect picture waiting to be taken.
The lights of the Old Town Square | Prague, Czech Republic
The picture shows the Old Town Square while it is shining bright in the light of the night. The eye catcher in this picture is, without doubt, the Church of Our Lady before Tyn, which is with its two towers one of the most famous buildings in the golden city of Prague. The construction of this monumental gothic basilica started in the 14th century, but was not completed until the beginning of the 16th century. This church together with the
Dubrovnik’s towers | Dubrovnik, Croatia
The famous wall of Dubrovnik is the ideal place to enjoy some incredible views high above the red slatted roofs of the UNESCO world heritage city. While I looked around, this unique skyline caught my eye immediately. To me, those towers and domes, whose outline pierce against the turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea is a unique sight and I doubt you will find this anywhere else in the world but in the Croatian city of Dubrovnik.
Harbour in the Morning | Split, Croatia
Split, which is the largest city in the south of Croatia and the unofficial capital of Dalmatia, should be a must-see during everyone’s trip to Croatia. The harbour with its beautiful boulevard, the so-called Riva, is the perfect place to hang out and take in the mesmerizing buzz of the city. But also the rest of the university town is worth a visit.
Café in the Government District | Berlin, Germany
The government quarter in Berlin is not only home to the most important institutions of Germany, like the Bundestag and the Federal Government, but also houses a number of different architectural masterpieces. Besides the Reichstag-building and the traditional Bellevue Palace you also find various futuristic buildings, which fit nicely into the cityscape.
Walls of Dubrovnik | Croatia
The picture shows parts of the famous Walls of Dubrovnik, which is together with Old Town of Dubrovnik part of the UNESCO list of world heritage sites since 1979. Over the years, the strong walls have proven themselves as a valuable protector to the city, lastly it shielded the city during the Siege of Dubrovnik in 1992. When you set foot on the majestic wall, which lays as tightly as a belt around the city, you almost wish those old
The view on the Old Town of Bamberg | Bamberg, Germany
The Old Town of the university town Bamberg is the largest preserved historical city centre in Germany and is source of many myths and legends. Beside the impressive Bamberg Cathedral, the very famous „little Venice“ and all the small and crooked alleys, one of my favourite buildings is the Old Town Hall. But it is not just an ordinary Town Hall, as you find it in any other city, Bamberg’s Old Town Hall was built in the middle of the
Peñiscola Sunshade | Spain
I won’t lie to you… I went to Peñiscola only for this spot. “The city in the Sea”, as local people call it, was tempting me for long time, so that we decided to spend one day of our trip along the eastern coast of Spain there. The castle which you see in this photograph was built in the thirteenth century by the Knights Templar.
Mallorca Memories | Spain
The evening when I shot this photo I was wandering, like always with my camera, around Port d’Alcudia. I was hoping for some composition with port, sunset and the stunning mountains in the background, but my attention was stolen by the couple who was trying to make a selfie to capture the moment of Spanish sunset.
