Cupola of St. Stephen’s Basilica | Budapest, Hungary
Three times I had been now to Budapest, and all three times I found my accommodation to be right next to the St. Stephen’s Basilica. And on every of my visits I had at least a brief look into the basilica – and the golden cupola stuck in my mind. By the way: The person in the middle of the cupola is really supposed to be God! That seems pretty unique to me, do you know any other church in
Plaza de la Virgen | Valencia, Spain
When we reached the Plaza de la Virgen, a traditional gathering place in the center of Valencia, I knew where I wanted to be for the dawn. I memorized the way and went early in the morning in direction of the central square in the old town of Valencia. Actually, I could just follow my nose and was not surprised to encounter many drunken bodies on the Plaza de la Virgen.
Postcard from Zaragoza | Spain
Zaragoza turned out to be the positive surprise of our trip to Spain. Many spacious squares, ideal conditions for photography and very interesting architecture. Moreover, the buildings were illuminated throughout all night and long in the morning, while tourists were nowhere to be found at this time. An absolute Dream!
Modern Way | Valencia, Spain
Valencia – what a playground. I had pretty high expectations for the so-called City of Arts and Sciences, but they were significantly exceeded. As a photographer with passion for modern architecture, you can’t wish for anything more. In my opinion, Santiago Calatrava has created an absolute masterpiece in his hometown Valencia.
Icons of Berlin | Germany
The Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom): To date, I have not met anyone who didn’t find it very aesthetic. By the way, this largest church of Berlin is a protestant, not catholic one. This fact comes as a surprise for most, but to me the age is more astonishing: Built from 1894 to 1905 the cathedral is just a little over 100 years old – pretty young for such kind of church.
London Eye and Westminster | England
London is one of the cities in which it is impossible to find just a single characteristic skyline view. Meanwhile, it’s not possible to imagine the London skyline without the London Eye. From the Golden Jubilee Bridge you have the possibility to photograph the London Eye and Westminster together, as they are located almost opposite of each other on the banks of the River Thames.
Moonlight | Berlin, Germany
An important lesson in photography: The best camera is the one you have with you. The day before the “Supermoon”, I wanted to scout some location where I could take the best photos of said supermoon with Berliner background. I had found my position near the Oranienburger Strasse, and was satisfied. Therefore we just sat by the water, enjoying the view on the Berlin Cathedral with the moon just above it. Fortunately, Daria mentioned so often how beautiful the scene
It’s Prague, Dude.. | Czech Republic
As you know, Prague is a pretty unique place for me. I have so many fond memories and I am glad each time when I can walk for a few days through the pretty streets. And of course, each time I have to cross the Charles Bridge at least once. During dawn, it is absolutely amazing and the various statues welcome you in the silence of a Sunday morning.
Bode-Museum | Black and White with Colour
The Bode Museum on the Museum Island in Berlin is in my opinion one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Even though the Museum Island in Berlin was heavily affected by the war, the Bode Museum withstood it relatively good. Here you go with a black/white/orange version of my photo from the Bode-Museum in Berlin.
Trains | Berlin, Germany
The S-Bahn and Berlin. More of a love-hate relationship than anything else. And if one metro scene is really typical for Berlin, then it’s the trains meandering through the city centre. Just as you can see them in this image; approaching the center from the eastern part of the city.
University of Greenwich | London, England
You have certainly all heard of Greenwich. Usually in the context of the zero meridian or the time zones. But only few have actually visited Greenwich – it’s not really on the list of things to do on a weekend trip to London.
Home Sweet Home | Berlin Alt-Tegel, Germany
It’s no secret that we love to travel and are often exploring the world. Yet, there is this one place where we are happy to come back to again and again. Especially after a long journey, things are often quite similar: First one evening on the couch, relaxing and arriving back home. But the very next day we often go out and have a look at “our” Lake Tegel. A wonderful constant which will be here forever, whenever we come
Chancellor’s Bungalow – Main Room | Bonn, Germany
Now this is how it looked like, the room of power and the heart of the German Government for 35 years until 1999. This is where the Chancellors like Willy Brandt, Helmut Schmidt, and Helmut Kohl lived and received international guests. It’s not hard to imagine the powerful people of politics sitting down in the lounge chairs discussing the fate of their people, is it?
My favourite Spot | Prague, Czech Republic
This is not the first photo of this point which I will show you. And it certainly won’t be the last. What can I say, I simply love this place in Prague. This unique view of the Castle and the Charles Bridge that leads you to the other side of the Vltava River. And in addition, the quiet zone in the otherwise rough water, that makes all the lights look twice as nice.
Semperoper | Dresden, Germany
The Semperoper is probably the most famous opera house in Germany. The reason however, is quite different as one might expect: The Radeberger Group – Germany’s largest brewery group – uses the Opera House for many years in the background of the advertisements for the Radeberger beer. Even if I try to resist any advertising as much as possible, I must admit that it immediately came to my mind as I stood there.
City West | Berlin, Germany
If you amble along the Kurfürstendamm or the Tauentzienstraße you can occasionally get a feel for how Berlin must have looked in its Golden 20s. Be it the ladies at the sides of the street, marvelling at handbags that can cost much more than 1,000 euros. Be it the gourmet who goes to the KaDeWe, the glamorous “Department Store of the West” to purchase an exclusive wine for his collection.
Independence Day | Bratislava, Slovakia
As the heavens opened up a bit and the UFO was illuminated in the orange light, it seemed to me as if I saw a version of the famous scene from the movie Independence Day – live in Bratislava. Surely, soon the first laser beams would appear across the Danube and raze the city to the ground…
A Golden Day in the Golden City | Prague, Czech Republic
My alarm went off at 3:30am, because before the sunrise I wanted to photograph the empty alleys. But when I arrived at the main entrance to Prague Castle, I was surprised when I saw it closed. Somehow I had assumed you could enter the castle yard at any time – yep, apparently not. Well, I started running the castle hill back down, through the streets of Malá Strana and then at the vineyards up again to the Prague Castle. No
Church of Peace – Pulpit | Świdnica, Poland
Built in one year completely from wood, the Church of Peace is a result of the fight between Catholicism and evangelists in the 17th century. Its interior is unbelievable beautiful, everything is made from wood and yet it is so colorful and huge. When you’re inside you don’t know where to look first, it has capacity for 5.500 people.
London Eye – The View
The London Eye is the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe and the third highest in the world. Built for the Millennium celebration, the operation was planned only for 5 years. It was unsure if this will be continued, but after the great success of this idea, they decided to keep operating the London Eye.
Royal Way | Prague, Czech Republic
The path from the Republic Square up to the St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle is known as the royal way of Prague. For centuries this was the way that had to be taken by the Bohemian kings to be crowned in St. Vitus Cathedral. Since in 1836 the last king was crowned in Bohemia, nowadays the Royal Way is just a tourist attraction – but one well worth seeing!
Through the Golden Alleys | Dresden, Germany
On the way back from the Frauenkirche to the opera I had already everything what I wanted captured on memory card and could slow down – until I turned around. Then I saw the dome of the Frauenkirche shine over the golden alleys of Dresden. So just one last photo before running back to the train station…
London Docklands | England
The London Docklands, once the largest port in the world, are now a vibrant financial center. The skyscrapers of Canary Wharf can be seen from all over the city but the direct view over the Thames you can enjoy from Greenwich. For a long time I wanted to try to make an HDR panorama. Overall, the finished work is composed of 28 individual images, 4 segments each with 7 exposures.
The Euro | Frankfurt (Main), Germany
When I suddenly unexpectedly and unplanned stood in front of the big Euro sign at the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, I had a bit of goose bumps. Since I studied economy, I know that you can complain much about the common currency, but I don’t want to discuss this here.
