Walls of Dubrovnik | Croatia

The walled city of Dubrovnik in Croatia is one of the most popular tourist destinations of that country, people also call it „The Pearl of the Adriatic Sea“. When you visit the historic Old Town of Dubrovnik, you will quickly understand why. All those historic buildings, which are entirely and originally preserved didn’t fail to amaze us during out stay and the city swiftly had us under its spell.

Walls with history 

The picture shows parts of the famous Walls of Dubrovnik, which is together with Old Town of Dubrovnik part of the UNESCO list of world heritage sites since 1979. The construction of this very impressive monument dates back to as early as the 8th century. However the Walls that we know today were only completed at the end of the 17th century. Over the years, the strong walls have proven themselves as a valuable protector to the city, lastly it shielded the city during the Siege of Dubrovnik in 1992. When you set foot on the majestic wall, which lays as tightly as a belt around the city, you almost wish those old stones were able to tell their stories from long forgotten days.
