City West | Berlin, Germany

If you amble along the Kurfürstendamm or the Tauentzienstraße you can occasionally get a feel for how Berlin must have looked in its Golden 20s. Be it the ladies at the sides of the street, marvelling at handbags that can cost much more than 1,000 euros. Be it the gourmet who goes to the KaDeWe, the glamorous “Department Store of the West” to purchase an exclusive wine for his collection.

Kurfürstendamm, or Ku’damm for short, is one of the most famous shopping streets in Berlin and maybe even in Germany. It’s the perfect place to buy clothes, jewellery, or just some souvenirs for your family and friends back home. But that’s not all – Ku’damm is also known for its rich history and vibrant nightlife.

Did you know that Ku’damm was once the center of Berlin’s cabaret scene? That’s right, in the 1920s and 1930s, people would flock to Ku’damm to see performances by famous artists like Marlene Dietrich and Hans Albers. Nowadays, you can still find some great live music venues and bars that pay tribute to the area’s cabaret past.

If you’re looking for some fun while you’re shopping, don’t miss out on the famous “KaDeWe” department store. This huge shopping palace is a must-see for any tourist. You can find everything there – from the latest fashion trends to delicious gourmet food.

But be warned, Ku’damm can get pretty crowded, especially during the holiday season. So, if you want to avoid the masses of tourists, you might want to visit the street in the morning or late at night.

Overall, Ku’damm is a great place to explore the history of Berlin and to indulge in some shopping therapy. Just make sure to bring a good pair of walking shoes and maybe a map – you never know where the shops and bars will lead you!
