City of Contrasts | Bucharest, Romania
When I prepared myself for the trip to Romania, I often stumbled upon the word “contrasts” connected to Bucharest. How often can you drink a (surprisingly expensive) beer in front of a ruin? This photo is taken right in the Old Town of Bucharest and I think you get a feeling for what I mean with “contrasts”. Just a few streets further they build a new 5-star Hotel.
St. Kinga’s Chapel | Wieliczka, Poland

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of Poland‘s most iconic attractions, a stunning underground complex that stretches for miles beneath the earth. At the heart of the mine lies the magnificent St. Kinga’s Chapel, an awe-inspiring room that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. Situated 101m below ground level, the chapel is a vast […]

The Grand Canal | Venice, Italy

The Grand Canal is the lifeblood of Venice, a winding waterway that winds its way through the heart of the city. Starting at the railway station and flowing south in a graceful S-curve towards St. Mark’s Square, the Grand Canal is the perfect way to experience the beauty and magic of Venice in Italy. One […]

Bratislava Old Town | Slovakia

Bratislava is famous for its castle and the fact that you can see it from almost everywhere in the city. One of the best places to experience the magic of Bratislava is in the Old Town, where winding streets, colorful buildings, and charming cafes combine to create a truly unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you’re exploring on […]

The German Chancellor’s Office | Bonn, Germany

The German Chancellor’s office is a symbol of power and authority, a place where some of the most important decisions in modern German history have been made. From 1964 until 1999, the Chancellor’s office was located in a small room that seems almost humble in comparison to the grandeur of other world leaders’ offices. Despite […]

Ghosts of the Romans | Bratislava, Slovakia

Bratislava Castle is a stunning example of medieval architecture and of course a must-visit when visiting Slovakia. It was around the time when Jesus Christ was born when the Romans first settled in the area around what is called today Bratislava. There they built a military camp of strategic importance to secure the trade routes. But […]

New Year’s Eve | Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is a popular destination for New Year’s Eve celebrations, with thousands of people flocking to the city to ring in the new year with fireworks, music, and festivities. 2013 has been an awesome year but it’s going to end now. What kind of photo should I choose now for the end of the year? […]

Brandenburg Gate – West | Berlin, Germany
Most photos that you’ll see from the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin are taken from its eastern side. However, the western side of Brandenburg Gate has two advantages for photographers. For one thing you can capture the colors of the rising sun (it’s no fun to shoot a sunset at Brandenburg Gate, too many tourists) and for another thing you can catch some light trails of the passing cars.
Altarpiece of Veit Stoss | Kraków, Poland

The Altarpiece of Veit Stoss is a masterpiece of Gothic sculpture and one of the most important works of art in Poland. Created in the 15th century by the Bavarian sculptor Veit Stoss, the altarpiece is the largest of its kind in the world. Its intricate carvings and delicate details have captivated visitors for centuries. […]

Palace of the Parliament | Bucharest, Romania
The Palace of the Parliament, the biggest building of Europe, you will inevitably pass once you’re in Bucharest. The immense building stands at the end of the long and wide Unirii-Boulevard and it is hard to show its size on a photo. The Palace is so big that I had problems to capture it in a single photo even with my wide-angle lens.
Glowing Zakopane | Poland

Zakopane, a popular tourist destination in Poland, a hidden gem, is renowned for its stunning mountain scenery and unique highlander culture. One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Zakopane is to take a trip up Gubałówka hill, which offers a panoramic view of the town and the Tatra Mountains. As we made […]

Prague in Pink | Czech Republic

Prague (Praha) is often referred to as „golden city“. When the sun is in the right position, you understand why – but when the sun goes down, it can happen that Prague appears in a totally different colour. When we took the stairs up to Letná Park (Letenské sady), famous for the huge Stalin Memorial […]

Reichstag & Paul-Löbe-Haus | Berlin, Germany

The German government district in Berlin is a shining example of modern architecture, regardless of your opinion on the government itself. While the district is still under construction and new buildings are constantly being added, it’s impossible to deny the striking contrast between the just 10-year-old Paul-Löbe-Haus and the historic Reichstag building. Despite the contrasting […]

First Light on the Kraków Main Square | Poland

The Main Square of Kraków (Rynek Główny) is the heart of the city, and no tourist should miss the opportunity to visit it. Despite its popularity, the square can often feel crowded throughout the day, and locals may complain about the influx of tourists. To avoid the crowds, it’s best to get up early and […]

Sunrise in Desenzano del Garda | Italy
To get up at five in the morning when you’re travelling is hard, but it has its advantages. Often you find locations that look much better during sunrise than during sunset. And, usually, you find a pretty quiet environment without many people around.
Stanislaw Staszic Chamber – Look Up! | Wieliczka Salt Mine, Poland

The Wieliczka Salt Mine must make it on your list when you have a rainy day in Cracow. The mine is simply mind-blowing. There are 300km full of statues, arts and chapels on 9 levels that were built over the last 700 years. It is the oldest salt mine of its kind in Europe and since 1978 legitimately […]

Prague Castle at Night | Czech Republic

Prague Castle (Pražský hrad) and Charles Bridge (Karlův most) are certainly the most photographed sights in Prague. For me, Prague will always be something special. I studied there for a semester and I had a great time. Well, during my studies I had neither a good camera nor a tripod, but I knew I will […]

London Eye on a Sunny Day in Winter | England
London is known for rainy weather, which lasts all the time, but it seems that I’ve been lucky on my short visit. The city waited up for me with a wonderful sunny, but cold weekend. I just had to take a photo of the London Eye.
Brandenburg Gate with Roses | Berlin, Germany

During the yearly Festival of Lights in Berlin it is not so easy to find a good spot. The composition should be appealing, not too many people should cross the photo and it would better be something which wasn’t photographed a thousand times before. Well, I’m certainly not the first in Berlin who takes a shot of […]

Memorial of Rebirth | Bucharest, Romania

The Memorial of Rebirth (Memorialul Renaşterii) reminds the bloody revolution against the Ceausescu regime in Bucharest in December 1989. Even though the idea of the memorial obviously enjoys wide popularity, the memorial itself had to face critical voices asking whether or not that is the best way to honour the heroes of the revolution. Due to […]

Bucharest’s Palace of the Parliament – Ballroom | Romania

Bucharest’s Palace of the Parliament (Palatul Parlamentului) was pretty much the only thing that crossed my mind when I saw cheap flight offers to Romania. We wanted to explore a new country and Bucharest sure sounded interesting. When I booked the tickets I didn’t know much about Romania, but a short look at the history on Wikipedia […]

Verona from Castel San Pietro | Italy

With only one day of shooting in Verona in Italy, we had to make it up to the Castel San Pietro to get the best view over the city. That one day was rather foggy, but you have to make the best of it. Since I wasn’t happy with the lighting conditions, I decided to […]

Verona San Giorgio | Italy

Verona is such a beautiful Italian city. Founded more than 2500 years ago, Verona is a sleeping beauty, crowded with masses of tourists worldwide. That’s why I enjoy the photos now even more, as they display Verona in a calm way, much calmer than the actual stay there has been. The church in the background […]

Deutscher Dom | Berlin, Germany
Berlin’s Deutscher Dom (i.e. German Church, also called New Church) is part of the ensemble on the Gendarmenmarkt in the center of Berlin. And as every year it was time for the Festival of Lights in Berlin providing special illumination for all major sights. Festival of Lights means: Way to many photographers in Berlin and way too little possibilities to capture sights without people in front of it.
