Reichstag & Paul-Löbe-Haus | Berlin, Germany

The German government district in Berlin is a shining example of modern architecture, regardless of your opinion on the government itself. While the district is still under construction and new buildings are constantly being added, it’s impossible to deny the striking contrast between the just 10-year-old Paul-Löbe-Haus and the historic Reichstag building.

Despite the contrasting styles, I believe that the combination of tradition and modernity is a harmonious blend, and it’s one of the reasons why the river Spree path through the government district is one of my favorite places in Berlin.

The Reichstag building, with its iconic glass dome, serves as the seat of the German Bundestag and has a rich history dating back to the 19th century. On the other hand, the Paul-Löbe-Haus, named after the former Bundestag President, is a modern glass building that houses the offices of many members of parliament.

Both buildings offer stunning views of the city, with the Reichstag’s glass dome providing a panoramic view of Berlin’s skyline and the Paul-Löbe-Haus offering a unique perspective of the river Spree. The modern architecture of the Paul-Löbe-Haus complements the historic Reichstag building, creating a harmonious contrast that showcases the evolution of German architecture.

When visiting the government district, be sure to take a stroll along the river Spree and enjoy the stunning views of both the Reichstag and the Paul-Löbe-Haus. And if you have the chance, make sure to book a guided tour of the Reichstag building to learn more about its rich history and modern design. Whether you’re an architecture buff or just looking for a peaceful place to walk, the government district is a must-visit destination in Berlin.
