This magnificent building is located in the heart of the capital of Greece, surrounded by the National Gardens of Athens. While researching the places to photograph I found a picture of Hall in Zappeion and I couldn’t resist visiting this place as one of the first things to do during this cloudy day in the capital of Greece.
The past of the Zappeion Hall
Thanks to the strong financial support of Evangelis Zappas, a rich Greek who made a fortune in Romania, the impressive Zappeion Hall opened doors on 20 October 1888. Actually the poet Panagiotis Soutsos, founder of the modern Greek Olympic ideals, has inspired Zappas with the idea that the country needs an Olympic building, which to keep and show samples of Greek art.
The atrium at the Zappeion exhibition hall in Athens
During my photo session at the atrium of the Zappeion Hall in Athens, I felt admiration to the masters who created this remarkable building. The central atrium you see on the photo is of 984 square meters. It has been build on two levels – an Ionic colonnade on the ground floor and pillars on the upper one.
Connected to the Greek Olympic movement, the Zappeion Exhibition Hall in Athens is currently being used for official events, such as conferences and exhibitions, for public ceremonies, and private gatherings. If you visit Athens, make sure to include Zappeion Hall in your sightseeing plans.
