Exterior Of The Zappeion Exhibiton Hall | Athens, Greece

I took this bright exterior image of one of Athens’ most notable buildings in a warm, sunny day. To be honest, I actually like more the atrium of the Zappeion Hall, especially the atrium, which stunned me with its perfect geometry.

Zappeion – The dream Of Evangelos Zappas

Evangelos Zappas, the generous rich man who left his fortune for the construction of a modern Olympic building, appointed the Danish architect Theophil Hansen for this noble task. Sadly, Zappas could not live long enough to see his dream come true in 1888.

Some of the major events, hosted in the Zappeion Hall

In 1938, the first national radio of Greece – Athens Radio Station, began broadcasting from the Zappeion.

In 1978, the 82nd session of the Olympic Committee’s International Exhibition took place.

In 2016, the Zappeion hosted a press conference regarding the visit of the former US President Barak Obama.

The list of cultural and sports events, of political ceremonies and commercial shows, housed in the Zappeion Exhibition Hall in Athens is really long. Even if that’s not enough to attract your interest to this magnificent building, I recommend you to see it, while sightseeing in the city, just for its elegant, neoclassical architecture. And who knows, you may even see a celebrity there!
