Looking at this photo, I remember how I noticed that interesting composition, created by remains of the Kotor Fortress. It attracted our attention on the way up to the Castle of San Giovanni when we made a break in order to enjoy the breathtaking view to Kotor Bay.
Fortifications of Kotor, Montenegro
Fortifications of Kotor are remarkable construction, influenced by several architectural styles, with the Venetian style predominantly. Unfortunately, severe earthquakes have damaged them in the 16th and the 17th centuries. The consequences of the most recent one from April 1979 are still visible on the Kotor Fortress.
Kotor’s Castle of San Giovanni
As a photographer, I often get up very early in the morning, in order to capture scenes at the blue hour – the time right before sunrise. So, I have to confirm that the best time of the day to climb to the Kotor’s Castle of San Giovanni is in the morning, when you have the best view to Kotor Bay. Just a hint from me – you need to take approximately 1,300 stairs to ascend to a height of 1,200m.
If, after seeing my photo collection from Kotor, Montenegro, you have decided to include this city in your must-see list, have in mind that the climate there is Mediterranean and August is the hottest month. January though was a good time to visit.
