Who can guess from which mountain top this view of the Tatra Mountains stretches? Well, I won’t keep you in suspense – Nico took this
Antholzersee, translated Lake of Antholz in English, is the third largest Lake in South Tyrol. Surrounded by mountain peaks, it is one of the most picturesque places in the Dolomites which we saw. When we reached this viewing point, we almost felt overwhelmed by the silence and yeah… the fresh air, which at a height of 1642 meters over the sea level, was not so easy to breathe.
Walking in the Laurel Forest through Anaga Mountains is like going back in time. These various subtropical trees and plants on Tenerife, once covered the southern parts of Europe and northern Africa some 20,000 years ago. Unfortunately, the woodlands from the Tertiary period are very rare to find around the world.
Bay of Kotor is known by locals as “Boka” – “the Bay”. Now with melancholy peering, I regret that we didn’t have more time to discover other towns located around this “fiord of south” – Risan, Tivat, Perast, Prčanj or Herceg Novi. All of them together with natural surroundings, are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The view that magnetised me was the vacant football pitch just at the foot of the mountain. At a height of 1754 meters over sea level, we felt a little discomfort breathing and I can only imagine how challenging it would have been to play a football game in such conditions.
The Vaduz Castle, located in Liechtenstein, was given this title due to its location’s capital –Vaduz. It’s the symbol of the country, a most majestic sight that I have personally experienced and this is also the home of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein. Unfortunately, this site is not open to the public, but it is still worth admiring from the outside and enjoying the views of the Alps.
The wonderful thing about the Dolomites is that when you take a drive through the mountain valleys to your destination, and you look around – you will see that this route is more interesting than the end. The view on Picco Di Vallandro (translated in German – Dürrenstein) from the flourishing valley, was an absolute pleasant surprise.
Lago di Braies is a natural lake which was the result of a landline blocking the river Braies. The road which leads to it, is an adventure by itself, mainly because of its views. It’s probably one of the most well-known and the largest lakes in the Dolomites, Italy.
The entire day was sunny, but it was just when we climbed the nearby hill to see the Medieval Church of Santa Maddalena, with the Odle Mountains in the background that clouds started to cover the sky. We didn’t run but instead, we stayed in place to embrace nature’s craft. And soon enough, we were soaked! This rain in the Dolomites is very heavy!
Taganana is inhabited by the eldest residents in Tenerife. It is located in the northern part of the Anaga mountains and you can only get there by driving downhill and sometimes involves turning down a 180-degree street which is an adventure on its own. Once you reach the town, the view is completely worth it. The feeling of calmness is remarkably engulfing, and, in some way, a mystical impression is present.
From many points in the city, you can see the dark lines of the Montenegrin Mountains – these are typical “elements” for the city skyline. Naturally then, they had to have their “place” shown in my photograph, when I wanted to capture the living area of the capital of Montenegro. I was delighted about the composition of the contrast of nature, politics and our modern days.
The day was sunny and it was a pleasure to climb up, even though there were many people who were going with us. Our tour started at 1000m of altitude and ended at 2000m to Kasprowy Wierch. In two third of the way, we reached Hala Gasienicowa – a meadow in between mountains. As soon as I saw the composition of the wooden cabin with high mountain scenery I knew it was worth to carry ten kilos of camera backpack with me.
Those of you, who have been to Kotor in Montenegro, would remember its well-preserved medieval constructions, which attract tourists and people of art from around the world. What can I say, same as all of them, I couldn’t resist the charm of this Adriatic Sea port. In order to catch the special beauty of Kotor Bay during the blue hour, Daria and I spent almost the entire day on the slopes of the mountain above Kotor.
