Arrábida National Park is known for its scenic mountain trails with views of the ocean and picturesque coves. However, if you search the phrase “Arrábida” with the famous Uncle Google, you’re bound to find a trillion ads for tours offering wine tastings. And there’s a reason for that..
We visited Arrábida and Setúbal National Park with a group of friends. On this early winter morning (yes, it must have been December, although you can’t see it in the photo) we set out on a mountain trail. After a few hours of hiking and breathtaking views, Nico and I decided that the ideal place for lunch would be the town of Azeitão. Azeitão is famous in Portugal especially for making the cheese and cakes of the same name. However, when we were on our way from Arrábida Park to Azeitão Nico suddenly pressed the brake, pulled off the road, and ran out of the car along with his camera. The reason was this sight.
The wines from the Setúbal, Arrábida area and the Sado River, in general, are among our favorites. And I’m not just talking about the famous Moscatel characteristic of the area. The red wines in particular have an incredible number of layers of flavor, and yet they are often… “light” and go well with any dish.
And although in this panorama of the Arrábida mountains the vines are empty, this view comes to mind when we open a bottle of wine from the Setúbal area.
