Long before shooting this photograph in Italy, I wanted to capture the Santa Maddalena Church with the Odle Mountain Group in the background, to be enlightened with the warm light of the setting sun. It wasn’t a sunny evening unfortunately and we actually experienced a thunderstorm. When I look at this photo though, I do think that it was actually better that my dreams of a sunny setting didn’t come true
Alone with a beautiful view to admire
At the beginning of June, the Dolomites were quite empty – there were almost no tourists around. I envisioned Santa Maddalena village to be full of people but particularly with photographers. Surprisingly, we were alone with a beautiful view to admire the Medieval Church in the village, with the Dolomites in the background.
The entire day was sunny, but it was just when we climbed the nearby hill to see the Medieval Church of Santa Maddalena, with the Odle Mountains in the background that clouds started to cover the sky. We didn’t run but instead, we stayed in place to embrace nature’s craft. And soon enough, we were soaked! This rain in the Dolomites is very heavy!
