Bay of Kotor Sunset Panorama | Kotor, Montenegro

I can never get enough of this view on Bay of Kotor from the Kotor fortress. You probably recall my other photography shots from this spot, during the daylight and blue hours. Years after visiting Montenegro, I discovered the photo on my drive; from the moment when the sun enlightened the sky over the Bay of Kotor in tale-like colours, I finally realized that there was still so much to discover in this area for me!

Boka

Bay of Kotor is known by locals as “Boka” – “the Bay”. Now with melancholy peering, I regret that we didn’t have more time to discover other towns located around this “fiord of south” – Risan, Tivat, Perast, Prčanj or Herceg Novi. All of them together with natural surroundings, are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Bay of Kotor was already inhabited in ancient times. Surrounded by two missives of Dinaric Alps and a length of 28 kilometres, the bay was a perfect place to build settlements which could then be protected from attacks from the Adriatic Sea. The history and culture of this place is so rich, that it will no doubt appeal for a longer article than this one. Nonetheless, alternatively I can just advise you to immerse in the colours of the setting sun, over the Bay of Kotor and forget about reality for a moment…
