Palace of Culture and Science | Warsaw, Poland

There are many jokes and controversies about Pałac Kultury i Sztuki (Palace of Culture and Science) in Warsaw. However, it’s difficult to deny that over the last decades it became an icon of the capital of Poland.

Some photos are spontaneous captures of the moment. Others, however, can require quite a bit of planning. This photo of the Warsaw skyline with the Palace of Culture and Science as its centerpiece falls into the latter.

View of Lisbon with the sunset – Uptown to Avenidas Novas; Portugal.

Sunset View | Lisbon, Portugal

There are 16 official viewpoints in Lisbon. Whilst we walked through old parts of Portugal’s capital, we noticed particular signs “Miradouro” and the assigned titles or names of these points. Aside from these official viewpoints in Lisbon, there are dozens of cafes, bars, restaurants and even streets from which the view of the city, is simply spectacular.

Sofia sunset behind the Mountain Panorama, Bulgaria.

Mountain Panorama | Sofia, Bulgaria

There is only one thing better than capturing a panoramic photo of a capital with mountains in the background. What would you say it is? It’s having a restaurant on top of that building, enjoying some wine and seeing the sky light up. Sofia – Bulgaria’s capital appears to be in the perfect place for such evenings.

Lisbon Panorama from St George Castle; Portugal in the winter.

Panorama from St George Castle | Lisbon, Portugal

This old castle, São Jorge, is likely one of the oldest, historical sites to visit in Lisbon. The hill that Saint George Castle is situated on, was previously inhabited by the Celtic tribe, the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans. This site was built in the 10th century as a protection against invading groups; the first walls were built in order to do this. Centuries later, the castle survived through many earthquakes, sieges and even the ever-changing rulers.

Florence Cathedral - Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore in Italy.

Florence Cathedral with Brunelleschi Duomo | Florence, Italy

For many decades after the establishment of Florence Duomo in the 13th Century, the Florence Cathedral was opened, and it took the genius mind of Filippo Brunelleschi to figure out exactly how to build the dome, the first of its kind in the 15th Century. In our day today, it dominates the skyline of the city and makes you marvel at how this structure survived through the ages.

Sunset in Porto with D. Luis Bridge and city skyline, Portugal.

Sunset with D. Luis Bridge | Porto, Portugal

Did you know that the architect who began the construction of the D. Luis Bridge was Gustav Eiffel? The same architect that constructed the Eiffel Tower. The interesting thing however, is that he didn’t actually finish this task. It was his apprentice, Theophile Seyrig who completed the construction.

Copenhagen sunset skyline from Christiansborg Palace, Denmark

Sunset skyline | Copenhagen, Denmark

The view in the photo above is from Christiansborg Palace, the seat of Danish Parliament. Since 2014, the central tower of Christiansborg Palace has been opened to the public. Entrance is free and since the sun was setting, we didn’t hesitate to climb up. The view was indeed stunning, as we had initially thought from the beginning. I just adore capturing bird’s eye perspective views of cities!⠀⠀⠀⠀

Kuala Lumpur Sunset Panorama, Malaysia.

Sunset Panorama | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

No doubt when in Kuala Lumpur, I wanted to capture the typical skyline with The Petronas Towers during blue hour and by turning around 180° degrees – I could just enjoy this beautiful sunset. This photo was taken from one of the balconies of The Sail Building, where we stayed during our visit to Kuala Lumpur. The upper floor was a pure paradise for us – external swimming pools, a gym area and an almost 360° degree view on the cityscape.

Panorama of Nicosia in Cyprus taken from The Shacolas Museum and Observatory.

Panorama | Nicosia, Cyprus

There are not many areas in Nicosia that allowed for a real panoramic capture of the city. Fortunately for us, we managed to find one… The Shacolas Museum and Observatory is located on Ledra Street – exactly in the heart of the Southern part of Nicosia in Cyprus. We had to pay an entrance fee, but the views were so worth it. We were able to see the Capital at an almost 360˚degree angle.

Podgorica Panorama with the Montenegrin Mountains in the background.

Podgorica Panorama | Montenegro

From many points in the city, you can see the dark lines of the Montenegrin Mountains – these are typical “elements” for the city skyline. Naturally then, they had to have their “place” shown in my photograph, when I wanted to capture the living area of the capital of Montenegro. I was delighted about the composition of the contrast of nature, politics and our modern days.

Singapore Marina Bay with Marina Bay Hotel at sunrise.

Marina Bay at sunrise | Singapore

The best view of the Singapore Bay is not from the famous Marina Bay Hotel as some would guess, but from the skyscrapers surrounding the bay itself. To have the perfect portrayal of this area, you will need to examine the Marina Bay Hotel and its unique architecture from the right perspective. The skyscraper where we stayed displayed a beautiful landscape on the last floor, which was a perfect spot to capture the bay.

Sunset Panorama of Madrid with The Metropolis Building and The Gran Via.

Sunset Panorama | Madrid, Spain

An hour of queuing was worth the wait, for this beautiful view of the sun setting gently behind The Metropolis Building and central Madrid. This photo of The Metropolis Building and The Gran Via was taken from the rooftop bar Azotea del Circulo. This building is, in fact, a theatre and for a minimal fee, you are permitted to take an elevator to access the rooftop bar, which has a breath-taking view of the central capital of Spain.

Autumn photo from Berlin of Storkower Straße, captured at the end of September.

Autumn photo of Berlin and the Time Blend Effect | Germany

First, I photographed the background – I captured the sun just before it went down and at the same time when the clouds were amazingly illuminated from the below. Then, half an hour later, I photographed the foreground, by shooting 7 – 8 images. At the end I used the Time Blend effect to combine images of the Storkower Straße in Berlin, taken at a different time, into a single picture.
