The Mercado Central in Valencia is impossible to pass by indifferently. The architecture of this building externally displays Valencia’s Art Nouveau style with elements of traditional Gothic. The interior of this market is not banal either. Light penetrates the interior from the numerous stained-glass windows on the walls and roof of the building and is reflected in the colourful stands full of regional products.
The Central Market
The Mercado Central in Valencia is one of the largest markets of its kind in Europe. It covers a total area of 8,000 square metres. The vaulted ceiling is the envy of many a cathedral. The roof is topped with panels of varying heights, which gives the interior an extra dimension. The hall elements are made of metal, marble and wood. The colours of these materials allow the colourful vegetables, fruit and other regional products to “shine”.
