I took this particular image at the Valencia’s City Of Art And Sciences, while the light was mild and delicate. Surprisingly, this remarkable complex has been built in the former bed of the River Turia. It’s not only the Museum of Science you see on the photo, there are also other buildings, related to science and technology, such as the Planetarium; or to nature – like the Oceanographic park, and also to art – as the Opera house.

This picture of the L’Hemisfèric in the Spanish city of Valencia, is a picture I could look at for hours. The unique architecture offers so much detail without losing its minimalist character that you just never grow tired of looking at it. This very impressive building was designed by Santiago Calatrava and was opened as the first building within the City of Arts and Sciences on 16th April 1998.

When we reached the Plaza de la Virgen, a traditional gathering place in the center of Valencia, I knew where I wanted to be for the dawn. I memorized the way and went early in the morning in direction of the central square in the old town of Valencia. Actually, I could just follow my nose and was not surprised to encounter many drunken bodies on the Plaza de la Virgen.

As a photographer with passion for modern architecture, you can’t wish for anything more. In my opinion, Santiago Calatrava has created an absolute masterpiece in his hometown Valencia.
