Convento do Espinheiro

Évora, Portugal

Portugal is home to some of the most fantastic hotels in the world. How come?

We discovered that it became a normal thing in Portugal to run hotels in historical places. One such hotel is the Convento do Espinheiro, just outside Évora in Alentejo.

From Lisbon, it’s just a one-hour drive. It quickly became our weekend getaway spot when we felt we need to clear our minds.

You arrive at Convento do Espinheiro and you feel set back in time. If you stay in the old quarters – as we always do – then you’ll stay exactly where the Monks used to live. Or, if you go for the suite, where the kings resided.

On our last visit, I noticed the fantastic light at breakfast and the cloudless sky. I thought this would be an excellent contrast to the spotless white walls of the Convento. Thus, I set out to create this little series.

Enjoy!
