Vilnius Skyline | Lithuania
Minus 23°C…. It was this cold for almost a week and then – the river stopped moving entirely! And now, Vilnius was calmer again – the ice bumping sounds now disappearing into itself. It was a weird feeling to stand up there on the hill of Vilnius Castle and suddenly enjoying complete silence.
Teide Observatory | Tenerife, Spain
The Teide Observatory is located exactly 2,390 meters over sea level. Getting the right conditions at Teide in Tenerife can be very tricky. This is due to the fact that on sea level, you actually have no idea how it is up there. The best way is to check the webcam on the observatory, and if it looks good – you can get into your car and drive up to more than 2000m above sea level.
Tenerife Splash | Spain
The waves on this particular day were enormous. We watched in awe; hypnotised with the rhythms from our restaurant view. When I was walking around the open pools at sunset, I saw a family standing under the Bajamar’s lighthouse. It was one of those magical moments, which screamed an immediate capture.
London Tower Bridge | England
We were passing the London Tower Bridge early in the morning, when we realised that the Tower was closed due to traffic. It became known to us that on this particular day, there was a marathon taking place and the city was preparing for it. The Tower Bridge was still enlightened with the soft warm morning sun. And you don’t typically get such shots when there is traffic.
Sunrise On London Millennium Bridge | England
A beautiful place so crowded during the day, the London Millennium Bridge during the early morning hours was finally deserted. You should see the view at least once when the city sleeps, and St. Paul’s Cathedral is still enlightened. I have heard that the London Millennium footbridge is known by many locals as the “Wobbly Bridge” and I wondered why – especially as I did not feel any shaky movements (even while running to capture the sun rising over The
United Nations Human Rights Room | Geneva, Switzerland
The structure of the “dome” began in 2007 and was completed 9 months later when the author, artist Miquel Barcelo placed his signature in the middle of the Cupola. Knowing that for this 1,400 square meters of ceiling, they needed 35,000 kilos of paint – this was met with great awe! The art piece on the Cupola is a metaphor of what the United Nations represent.
Autumn | Saxon Switzerland, Germany
It was funny to discover that the name “Sächsische Schweiz” comes from 17th Century. In 1766, two Swiss artists Adrian Zingg and Anton Graff joined Dresden Academy of Arts. These two artists wrote many letters comparing landscape – back then named Meissen Highlands – to their homeland. The name gained broad audience and soon enough the entire area was recognized this way.
Windmills In Zaanse Schans | Netherlands
In our modern age, there are only 1,200 fully operational windmills in the Netherlands. Several in the “Old Holland” region, including the famous beauties from Zaanse Schans. Over a few centuries ago, there were over 10,000 windmills across the Netherlands and they were used to pump water out of the lowlands, to make flour from grains and to press oil from seeds or saw wood.
Zaanse Schans village | Netherlands
Whilst visiting Amsterdam, we had to get up early for at least one our mornings to visit the incredible and charming Zaanse Schans. Gustavo told us that this area is supposedly a “fake village” and that there were no residents, so we made the best use of our visit – making as much noise as we desired. When the sun was up, a young man came out of the house you see above, complaining about the noise.
Amsterdam at Night | Netherlands
There are exactly 165 canals, so the decision as to which one to capture was not so easy. The composition though was always accomplished by the presence of several boats. The boats pictured above were rather small, in comparison to the 2,500 other house boats which were all around Amsterdam.
The Shard | London, England
The Shard is another famous icon from London. It is built from 11,000 glass panels, creating an area of glass that is equal to eight football pitches. This giant glasshouse during the day appeared in a navy colour, but when the early morning sun shined upon it – it was just pure gold.
Tower Bridge | London, England
The best time to see London City is just before the sun rises over this famous capital. It was such an unforgettable experience; waking up at 3am and wandering around several empty streets, that usually bustle with residents during daytime working hours. You could walk, breathe with ease and wait with excitement to enjoy the sun coming over the Tower Bridge.
The Vienna State Opera | Austria
It is not surprising that Vienna is best known for its Opera. The neoclassicist blast from the ensemble, with all the aura of history and prosperity, give this Hall a unique character. The Vienna State Opera in our present day not only displays performances of opera pieces but also ballet spectacles. Once a year, the Opera is transformed into a ballroom on the last Thursday of Fasching.
Rocky Beach | Menorca, Spain
Of all the places we’ve seen in Menorca, this was one of my favorites. This is a piece on Menorca, where we shot star trails during the night along with other PhotoPills Camp members. Without any doubt, this spot is as stunning during the night, as it is during the day and the sunset is remarkable. Somehow, this picturesque view has become the icon of Menorca.
Karlskirche | Vienna, Austria
There is nothing more fascinating than seeing a city wake up. Any area that is busy for 20 hours or more, has those few moments of pure tranquility. In Vienna, the place where I could enjoy this the most was The Karlskirche. On a regular day, the square in front of the Church would be busy but, on this occasion, it was empty and there were no noises from the busy city ground.
The Gloriette and The Neptune Fountain | Vienna, Austria
The Gloriette ensemble located up on the hill and The Neptune Fountain are part of the park surrounding Schönbrunn Palace – a must-see in Vienna. The outcome of this picture was more than what I had expected. The air on this day was hazy because of the heat, however, this haziness gave a glow to the marble statues on The Fountain and The Gloriette itself creating such a beautiful canvas.
Lighthouse | Menorca, Spain
As everyone may already be aware, photography takes a lot of preparation and arrangement. Sometimes though, it’s all about the luck in being at the right place, at the right minute and then capturing the moment as quickly as possible. This was the case with this photograph of Cap de Cavallería on Menorca. This is my first photo of a lighthouse and during the PhotoPills Photography Camp session, I experienced several first timer photo taking.
Star Trails | Menorca, Spain
This shot comes from the stunning Menorca – one of the Balearic Islands. The interesting thing is that I’ve never tried shooting star trails before! I saw this kind of photography before, but somehow in Berlin and in cities where I have traveled as such shots like these just didn’t work for me and for one simple reason – the skyline over these cities is “polluted” by artificial light. Therefore, if you want top results when photo taking, it is
Zwinger Palace | Dresden, Germany
This section is a terrace that is part of the Zwinger Palace. The building and the courtyard inside are built in a Baroque style, which was famous for the rich, colorful ornaments and striking shapes. It really is a unique experience to see and has even more exceptional beauty on a sunny day. The name of the palace comes from the German word “Zwinger” which describes the open space between two walls.
Berjaya Resort – Bedroom View From Chalet On Water | Langkawi, Malaysia
Can you imagine waking up every morning and enjoying this view? The stay in Berjaya Langkawi Resort passed by very quickly. Almost every year that we make our return home, we are reminded of our stay and we miss it dearly. But – we never really know, it may be that one day we take this route again and enjoy this destination.
Berjaya Resort – Bathroom With a View | Langkawi, Malaysia
The entire stay in Berjaya Resort in Langkawi, Malaysia was truly another experience for us. This is a photo of… a bathroom in one of the premiere chalets on the water in Berjaya Resort. I already showed you a balcony from which you also see this jacuzzi, overlooking the surrounding clean and turquoise seawater. Surprise, surprise – we didn’t leave our residence very often…
Sunset Panorama | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
No doubt when in Kuala Lumpur, I wanted to capture the typical skyline with The Petronas Towers during blue hour and by turning around 180° degrees – I could just enjoy this beautiful sunset. This photo was taken from one of the balconies of The Sail Building, where we stayed during our visit to Kuala Lumpur. The upper floor was a pure paradise for us – external swimming pools, a gym area and an almost 360° degree view on the
Coastal Path in Berjaya Resort | Langkawi, Malaysia
Picturing this scene for a moment, I formed an interesting concept – I believe that the closer we are to the equator, the more the surrounding colours of nature become evident. The Berjaya Resort was exceptional – in the middle of a jungle and still on the coast, it offered many diverse ways of “living”. On a particular occasion, after dinner at a restaurant, I took my camera out to eternalize this experience of arriving home “on the water” and
Paphos Castle | Cyprus
This Medieval Castle is one of the most recognizable landmarks from Paphos. It is situated on the side of the harbour and is an absolute must-see for visitors (also from inside) in this town. The Paphos Castle dates back to Byzantine Times when it was built as a fortress for the city. Today, the Castle serves as an artistic centre.
