Karlskirche | Vienna, Austria

There is nothing more fascinating than seeing a city wake up. Any area that is busy for 20 hours or more, has those few moments of pure tranquility. In Vienna, the place where I could enjoy this the most was The Karlskirche.

With its perfect reflection, you cannot help but find inner peace with oneself while enjoying the sun slowly rising and viewing everything in warm light. On a regular day, the square in front of the Church would be busy but, on this occasion, it was empty and there were no noises from the busy city ground. Early morning photography itself has a direct correlation with meditation.

A little about the Church:

Karlskirche in Vienna, when translated – Charles Church is dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo, a contra-reformer from the 16th Century, known for his healing of plague suffers. The Church was built at the beginning of the 18th Century. Karlskirche is designed mainly in a Baroque style, but there are many references to other styles, for example the façade which leads to the porch, corresponding to a Greek temple portico.

The Church in our day hosts Antonio Vivaldi concerts. This is because this composer died in a hospital nearby and was buried in that Church. Though the thumbs were destroyed and lost, concerts in Charles Church bring memories about him back.
