As I reminisce on my trip to Ireland in 2023 summer, one journey stands out above the rest. It took me from the hectic streets of Dublin to the peaceful hamlet of Maynooth and finally, I ventured to the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher. These towering coastal cliffs, located on the southwestern side of the Burren area in County Clare, are incredible, rising steeply over the Atlantic Ocean.
Braving the Elements: Ireland’s Unpredictable Weather
Our visit to the Cliffs of Moher was not without challenges. Considering our three-day visit and unpredictable weather, I knew we had little time to witness a spectacular sunset. Despite our exhaustion from traveling Ireland’s challenging roads, we persisted, keen to capture the beauty of this historic site.
As we approached the cliffs, the wind blew about us, and the occasional shower threatened to damper our spirits. However, as the evening continued, a glimmer of hope emerged on the horizon—literally. The anticipated break in the clouds arrived, providing a short but spectacular moment as the sun started to descend.
Capturing the Moment at Cliffs of Moher
With my camera in hand, I took the chance to photograph the scene in front of me. After adjusting my exposure settings, I set up the equipment for a long exposure, enabling the camera to capture the vibrant sky hues. For more than two minutes, I stared in wonder as the scene changed before my eyes, while the camera captured it. The cliffs were illuminated in the glow of the setting sun, casting a mesmerizing display of colors across the landscape.
Despite the difficulties we endured along the route, seeing the sunset at the Cliffs of Moher was an incredible experience. It’s a moment that I’ll remember always, showcasing the beauty and strength of Ireland’s natural surroundings.
Here is my other photo I took on second evening when I was walking along the cliffs trying to find the best composition. I remember quite vividly that I found this spot and I liked the composition of it but then it started to pour the rain so I had to cover everything up and wait patiently.
Ireland has limitless possibilities for memorable encounters. Be prepared for whatever the weather brings, and enjoy these unforeseen moments that make travel really amazing.
