Sechserbrücke in Alt-Tegel | Berlin, Germany

Sechserbrücke in Alt-Tegel from a central perspective at sunset
Sechserbrücke in Alt-Tegel. Built in 1908 and probably the most symbolic construction of Tegel.

With this photo from the so-called Sechserbrücke in Alt-Tegel, I wish you all a happy new year!

This is a special photo for me and fitting to be the first published photo of 2023. 2023 will be the first year I’m officially and totally out of Berlin and out of Germany! Did I say I don’t leave Berlin any time soon?

Alt-Tegel is the district in which I grew up. In which my father grew up. In which my grandparents met each other. We have a saying about of being a “Berliner Pflanze” (“Berlin Plant”), which means: Once you put roots somewhere, you stay there until you die.

I guess I’m an exception to this, being the one to leave Alt-Tegel now and even leaving the country, havimade a move over to Portugal.

Therefore my last shooting in Tegel was a bit melancholic. We had beautiful autumn colours, and the red Sechserbrücke is probably the most iconic symbol of the district. I’ve crossed the Sechserbrücke countless times as a child, less often as an adult, and now I don’t know how much more often I’ll still cross this bridge. I’m super happy to have this photo now as a reminder of these days.

So, off to a new year. May 2023 we your best year so far. Off to new beginnings if you need them, and may your dreams come true.
