As the sun began to set over the gorgeous city of Ciutadella, Menorca, I found myself on a one-of-a-kind journey.
Along with renowned photographers Albert Dros and Elia Locardi, I guided a group through the twisting streets of this medieval Mediterranean jewel. Our destination? The renowned Castell de Sant Nicolau stands majestically at the mouth of the bay, offering spectacular views and amazing shooting opportunities.
Exploring Ciutadella: A Tapestry of History and Culture
Our group parted eager to explore Ciutadella on their own during the afternoon. I entered the city center with my camera, captivated by its old buildings and colorful culture. Each turn revealed a new narrative, from the medieval lanes of Es Born to the busy shoreline with traditional fishing boats.
As the hours passed, our paths crossed again, this time at the foot of Castell de Sant Nicolau. The fortress guarded the city and urged us to climb its aged steps to admire the view below. But as I approached, expecting to see my colleagues photographers setting up their gear for the perfect shot, I was met with an unexpected scene.
Castell de Sant Nicolau: A Tale of Two Views
Instead of a bustling crowd of cityscape fans, I discovered only my wife, who was patiently waiting at the castle’s gate. Unfazed, I framed the picture in front of me, capturing the dusk light’s golden shine on the ancient stones. However, when looking around, I couldn’t help but chuckle at our group’s choice of an entirely different view position.
Far below, beneath the rocky rocks that surrounded the bay, my fellow photographers had found their own slice of paradise. Cameras pointed at the horizon captured Menorca’s shoreline, with each frame highlighting the island’s different landscapes.
I guess I don’t turn landscape photographers into cityscape photographers 🙂
In that moment, standing between the timeless architecture of Ciutadella and its beautiful surroundings, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. Gratitude filled me for the opportunity to explore this extraordinary corner of the world. already for the fourth time as part of the PhotoPills camp.
As the sun fell below the horizon I took one last glance at the Castell de Sant Nicolau. Like Favàritx and Pont d’en Gil, it stood as a testament to the timeless beauty of Menorca.
