Three years ago, my first trip to Dubai, I was in question of the futuristic architecture of the recently opened museum. Nothing quite like that has ever come across me. Tickets were almost impossible to obtain back then—booked out almost a month ahead. I barely spent a week in Dubai, so I regretfully never had the opportunity to see the inside.
Thankfully, this time it was different. The first opportunity came to capture the outside of the Museum Of The Future at night, incredibly shining against Dubai’s always-changing skyline. The chance arrived at last when I could reach a private balcony. It is a unique perspective point since only two persons could shoot from there at once. When it came time for my turn, I remained as long as I could to wait for the best light and moment. Seeing the Museum of the Future at night was wonderful; the lit calligraphy around its sleek, curved exterior contrasted wonderfully with the crisp, futuristic towers in the background.
Preparing for Ideal Perspective
Still, time was everything. Unlike in Berlin or Portugal, where blue hour lingers, Dubai’s proximity to the equator causes the change from day to night to happen rapidly. I just had ten to fifteen minutes to get the ideal perspective. With the light trails of passing cars framing the museum, I hoped to give the composition depth and vitality. Five exposures, each layering in the motion of the city, spun a continuous line of brilliant streaks across the scene.
The way warm and cool tones interacted most caught my attention. The towers above reflected colder, bluish colors; the golden lamps create a warm warmth below. This contrast, almost like a yin-yang balance, reflected the curving form of the museum. Fluid, futuristic, yet precisely harmonic with its surrounds.
Museum of the Future: An Architectural Marvel
The Museum of the Future is more than just an architectural wonder. It’s a link between past and present, a monument to what is feasible when vision and technology come together. At night, surrounded by synthetic light and the buzz of the metropolis, it becomes a lighthouse of invention right in the middle of Dubai. As incredible and impressive as all the downtown in Dubai, also at sunrise and Downtown Dubai at Night or Al Madam Ghost Town | Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
