If you’ve ever looked at your own work and thought, “This doesn’t feel like art yet,” Al Madam is the kind of place that quietly proves otherwise.
Out in the Sharjah desert (near Dubai), Al Madam—sometimes called the Al Madam “ghost village”—doesn’t feel abandoned in a dramatic, cinematic way. It feels paused. And the desert has started pressing “play” again, one grain at a time.
That’s why the hero frame in this photo series is the sand‑filled threshold. A doorway is supposed to draw a hard line between inside and outside. Here, that line has dissolved: dunes spill through the entrance like a slow tide, turning a plain room into a story about time, stillness, and nature’s persistence.

Tower through the window: f/14 • 1/160s • ISO 100 — a frame‑within‑a‑frame composition, stopped down to hold detail from the sand to the structure outside.
Town view: f/7.1 • 1/640s • ISO 100 — a wider breath of space, where fences and paths gently guide your eye into the quiet.
Windows room: f/8 • ISO 400 — raising ISO to keep the interior readable while the desert outside stays bright.

If you photograph Al Madam, try this: don’t hunt for “epic.” Hunt for transitions—thresholds, corners, window light, and repeating textures. That’s where the storytelling lives. If you want one frame that feels truly print‑worthy, sand + side light is almost a cheat code. It turns ordinary rooms into sculpted landscapes.
