This shot comes from the stunning Menorca – one of the Balearic Islands. This photo required complete and iron focus and included counting to 30… for about an hour!
The interesting thing is that I’ve never tried shooting star trails before! I saw this kind of photography before, but somehow in Berlin and in cities where I have traveled as such shots like these just didn’t work for me and for one simple reason – the skyline over these cities is “polluted” by artificial light. Therefore, if you want top results when photo taking, it is best to do so mainly in remote areas.
It was a great opportunity for me to join the PhotoPills Photography Camp which took place on the Island and allowed us to have plenty of spots perfect for night sky photography. Life though is never as easy as you plan it. The first time I spent taking star photography-shooting was very challenging for me.
Why? To take a photo of stars trailing in the sky, you need to stand in one place for approximately an hour and just allow your camera to shoot photos in time intervals. It is very crucial that the time gaps between the photos are the same – that is 30 seconds. If this is not done accordingly, you will see dots instead of fine curved lines in photographs.
The problem though in my case was that my camera was unwilling to cooperate during this evening and it didn’t shoot automatic photos every 30 seconds (as cameras normally would). And so I had to count to 30 each time for an hour to shoot this photo – and there was no room for mistakes!
Get it On Your Wall
My goal is always to create the best possible and most exciting photos to do justice to the places where they’ve been taken.
Maybe this place evokes some good memory for you?
Or it's a place which you always dreamed to be one day?
I wish a high-quality print of my photo will bring you a feeling of being there at any time!
