Laurel Forest on Anaga Mountains | Tenerife, Spain
Walking in the Laurel Forest through Anaga Mountains is like going back in time. These various subtropical trees and plants on Tenerife, once covered the southern parts of Europe and northern Africa some 20,000 years ago. Unfortunately, the woodlands from the Tertiary period are very rare to find around the world.
Sunset View | Lisbon, Portugal
There are 16 official viewpoints in Lisbon. Whilst we walked through old parts of Portugal’s capital, we noticed particular signs “Miradouro” and the assigned titles or names of these points. Aside from these official viewpoints in Lisbon, there are dozens of cafes, bars, restaurants and even streets from which the view of the city, is simply spectacular.
Bugloss on Teide Mountain | Tenerife, Spain
Ever wondered what a bugloss is? A bugloss is a plant that is widespread on the island of Tenerife, in Spain. It usually grows up to approximately 3 meters in height and you can see it on Las Cañadas del Teide. I have always wanted to see them bloom in an inflamed red shade.
Quinta da Regaleira Gardens and Initiation Well | Sintra, Portugal
This inverted tower – Initiation Wells, is one of the most intriguing parts of the Quinta da Regaleira Gardens. Climbing this tower was much like climbing any other tower, the only difference is that… it is buried underground. Looking at this photo today now sends a shiver up my spine.
Vila Nova de Gaia | Porto, Portugal
Did you know that Port wine does not originate from Porto? It actually comes from Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal, a town across Porto on the Douro river. A more interesting fact though, is that the Port wine is only stored, not produced.
The National Palace of Culture | Sofia, Bulgaria
After two days of being in Sofia, we looked on the map again to see what we could still visit. Just at the end of the Vitosha Boulevard, we noticed a gigantic space that appeared to be a park, with only one large building placed in the centre. This building is known as the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
Bay of Kotor Sunset Panorama | Kotor, Montenegro
Bay of Kotor is known by locals as “Boka” – “the Bay”. Now with melancholy peering, I regret that we didn’t have more time to discover other towns located around this “fiord of south” – Risan, Tivat, Perast, Prčanj or Herceg Novi. All of them together with natural surroundings, are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Miramar Beach and Capela do Senhor da Pedra | Portugal
We visited this beach and chapel with friends one sunny winter Sunday (typical weather in Portugal). The tide was low, so we could walk around the “Capela” without even soaking our shoes. We were very lucky this day because when the tide was high, the small church would be surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean waves and so it can be very difficult to enter.
New Year’s Eve | Vilnius, Lithuania
The square was built in the 19th century after the reconstruction of Vilnius Cathedral. It is now the biggest square of Vilnius, a former area dense with public renaissance and medieval buildings. This photo of the cathedral square with the Christmas Tree was taken a day before celebrating New Year’s Eve in Vilnius a few years ago.
Krämerbrücke | Erfurt, Germany
The stone part of Krämerbrücke was built in 1325 but the houses located there have continuously been inhabited during the past 500 years – longer than any other bridge in Europe! If not for the modern outfits of passers-by, you could actually feel a little like you are still living in traditional medieval German city.
Mountain Panorama | Sofia, Bulgaria
There is only one thing better than capturing a panoramic photo of a capital with mountains in the background. What would you say it is? It’s having a restaurant on top of that building, enjoying some wine and seeing the sky light up. Sofia – Bulgaria’s capital appears to be in the perfect place for such evenings.
Ivan Vazov National Theatre | Sofia, Bulgaria
When constructed in 1904, the building was simply called the “National Theatre” in Sofia. The first play performed, happened to be Ivan Vazov’s “The Outcasts” and later on the theatre was named after this Bulgarian artist. The neoclassical style of architecture is one of my favourites and there in the heart of Sofia, it seemed to fit perfectly.
Misurina – Civetta Mountain and… a football pitch! | Dolomites, Italy
The view that magnetised me was the vacant football pitch just at the foot of the mountain. At a height of 1754 meters over sea level, we felt a little discomfort breathing and I can only imagine how challenging it would have been to play a football game in such conditions.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral | Sofia, Bulgaria
This cross-domed Orthodox basilica was one of the monuments that initially sparked my interest in photography and of course, I eventually developed a longing to visit Sofia. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in the capital of Bulgaria, is one of the largest Eastern Orthodox churches in the world and incorporates different architectural elements from across Europe.
The Helix Bridge | Singapore
The Helix Bridge in Singapore; a design inspired by human DNA. This was something very difficult for me to imagine, even before I had actually seen it. This connection of science and architecture stunned me, and I felt that I would not be able to return to Berlin without capturing this rare composition.
Panorama from St George Castle | Lisbon, Portugal
This old castle, São Jorge, is likely one of the oldest, historical sites to visit in Lisbon. The hill that Saint George Castle is situated on, was previously inhabited by the Celtic tribe, the Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans. This site was built in the 10th century as a protection against invading groups; the first walls were built in order to do this. Centuries later, the castle survived through many earthquakes, sieges and even the ever-changing rulers.
Vaduz Castle | Vaduz, Liechtenstein
The Vaduz Castle, located in Liechtenstein, was given this title due to its location’s capital –Vaduz. It’s the symbol of the country, a most majestic sight that I have personally experienced and this is also the home of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein. Unfortunately, this site is not open to the public, but it is still worth admiring from the outside and enjoying the views of the Alps.
Church of St Anne | Vilnius, Lithuania
The Church of St Anne is famous for its representation of a flamboyant and brick gothic architectural style in Lithuania. What was fascinating was that the exterior of the church had remained almost unchanged since the 15th century, when it was erected. Thanks to St Anne Church, the old town of Vilnius can potentially be signed to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The 25 de Abril Bridge and Christ The King statue | Lisbon, Portugal
The 25 de Abril Bridge connects the city of Lisbon with the municipalities of Almada. It is the 32nd largest suspended bridge in the world. During the day, you will see that it appears as a dark red colour and it reminded me so much of the Golden Bridge in San Francisco. Just behind 25 de Abril Bridge in the municipality of Almada stands a statue of Jesus Christ – as its name emphasises – “Sanctuary of Christ The King”.
Lugano Lake in the Alps | Switzerland

If you connect Switzerland with the Alpine scenery and the typical cold weather – this is the right connection, but it is not everywhere. There is a place named Lugano in Switzerland that is an Italian speaking Ticino region, where palm trees and a lot of flowers grows. The sun shines often, though, your experience […]

Bosco Verticale | Milan, Italy
The Bosco Verticale – “The Vertical Forest” was one of the most unique buildings I had ever seen in Milan. There were 900 trees, 5,000 shrubs and 11,000 floral plants that had been imbedded against the two towers. The towers were built in this style, to reduce smog and increase oxygen levels.
Piazza del Duomo | Milan, Italy
Milano Duomo is the 5th largest Cathedral in the world and among this list of five – it is the oldest Cathedral. The day before I took this photo, we were enjoying some “Spritz” with a friend in a rooftop bar. From there, we had a view of the top of the Cathedral. From a bird’s eye view, you can see the many sculptures that are decorating the Duomo Towers.
The Ponte Vecchio | Florence, Italy
The Ponte Vecchio “The Old Bridge” replaced the Roman Stone Bridge of Florence in 1345. Today it is impossible to be in Florence and not pass by it on foot, enjoying the marvellous jewellery shops that have situated on Ponte Vecchio for centuries. It is also one of the most interesting bridges that I have ever seen because of its construction and the history it carries.
San Gimignano and The Vineyards | Italy
San Gimignano is known in Italy as “the Town of Fine Towers”. The towers of this medieval town are visible from every point you approach on the hill that it stands on. The dozens of tower-houses are a symbol of San Gimignano but, it’s not the only symbol of this place – another, is the vineyards with the famous Vernaccia grapes!
