The Trakai Island Castle is an unusual place from both historical and architectural point of view. We’ve got to know this place just by chance. We were visiting Vilnius for New Year Eve in 2015 and we met some people coming from there. They recommended us to take a trip to Trakai Castle as it was nearby Vilnius and it was supposed to look photogenic while cold winter.
The Trakai Island Castle And The Karaim Community
It is very close to the capital Vilnius. Trakai Castle has been built in the 14th century as a construction with strategic importance. Not only Lithuanians but also people from other nationalities, such as the Karaim community, are part of its history.
Actually I saw their village, which is close to the Trakai Castle. It’s amazing how the Karaim community has managed to preserve their culture and religion for so many centuries. As far as I understood, the Grand Duke has brought them along with himself in the 14th century, after a successful battle.

First of all, it was bitterly cold or -27°C. Daria was waiting at a café, while I was out there, trying to find a unique composition. Since the lake was fully frozen, you could hear some strange noises coming out of it. It was so creepy! Finally, it appeared that this is only the cracking of the ice.
