The State Opera, located in the heart of Vienna, Austria, is a must-see destination for any music lover. This beautiful opera house is one of the most famous in the world and has been home to some of the most iconic performances in history.
Built in the mid-19th century, the State Opera house boasts an impressive neo-renaissance façade adorned with statues and sculptures. Visitors can explore the grand foyer, complete with a stunning chandelier and frescoed ceilings. The auditorium is also a sight to behold, with its ornate box seating and plush velvet curtains.
Unlike my previous shot, I had to get up early to take this State Opera photo. I needed to set up my tripod at a bus stop to have this frontal view. Usually, this is no problem at all. But I underestimated the party crowd in Vienna.
It was a weekend in August, so sunrise was very early. Early enough for party people to stumble towards home at first light. So while I was standing here in the same spot for more than an hour, “life happened” all around me.
A newly found couple was debating whether to go “his place or her place”. Flashing blue lights driving by and stopping in the middle of the street 50 metres from me. Six guys shouting and running across the street, catching up with the first and a fist straight to the face.
All while I was standing there, protecting my tripod and camera. At some point, I realized the irony. I’m taking photos of the State Opera from the outside. At the same time, the world presented me with a play that might as well have been a ticket-worthy performance.
