While I genuinely enjoy photographing landscapes and cityscapes, one of my biggest passions is capturing the interior of magnificent buildings. Like this one of the inside of the Budapest Parliament and it’s grand staircase.
Architects design exteriors to impress from a distance. But the real question is always what happens once you enter. Does the feeling match the promise?
I had seen the Hungarian Parliament in Budapest many times from the outside. You know the view. The neo gothic facade stretches along the Danube, instantly recognizable and impossible to ignore. Each time I walked past it, I kept asking myself the same question.
Could the inside possibly live up to this? The answer came the moment we stepped inside of the Budapest Parliament.
Budapest Parliament Inside and Grand Staircase
The Budapest Parliament Grand Staircase was the first space that truly revealed what this building is about. It opened up in front of us in a way I did not expect. Warm golden tones filled the entire hall. The arches, the ceiling paintings, the symmetry of the space all worked together so naturally that it did not feel overwhelming.
This photo takes me back to 2014, when we finally had the chance to go inside the Parliament Building.
