If you want to hike in Tenerife, look no further than the Anaga Mountains.
My favourite hiking trail was the one we took after driving up to the Mirador Cruz del Carmen, near the town of Las Mercedes. When we arrived at the Mirador, the weather wasn’t good enough for some photos, so we took on our hiking boots and went off to the trails.
From here, you have access to all kinds of tracks that you could wish for. There is something for beginners; there are trails for advanced. You find trail runners and slow hikers. You have round tracks, and you have one-way routes. We decided to take one of the easier ones that took only about an hour as a round-trip.
The trail took us through the mystical cloud forest of the Anaga Mountains – and if the weather is not great for the big vista on the Teide, then it is precisely right to experience the forest. Closer to the end of our hike, I found this spot. I HAD TO take out my camera at this point. I was looking all the way to find the perfect scenery to capture what I experienced on this hike in Tenerife. And this one was it.
The mystical light shines through the forest that is green all year round. The light becomes visible in the light rays broken by the mist. I set up my tripod; I compose the hiking trail in the frame next to the light. I take in the scenery once more and press the shutter.
Can you get a feel for why I love to hike in Tenerife?
P.S., this is the Google Maps Location for the Start of the Trail
