Sounds of Wroclaw | Poland

Did you know that Wrocław has one of the biggest market squares in Europe and that its city hall is the biggest one in Poland? Well, I didn’t know that before… What I knew however, is that when you close your eyes, you can hear the sounds of the past in the heart of this modern city.

A panorama shot

So, when I closed my eyes on this very serene evening, I listened to the sounds around me and imagined myself back to a Wroclaw from three hundred years ago.

The laughter of people passing surely was the same and also the sound of footsteps on the old cobbled pavement had to be the same. Sometimes you can hear horses neighing in the distance, even though today they are only used to pull carriages for tourists, their sound brings the picture of Wroclaw in the 18th century to life. Late at night the city wraps itself in silence and is only disturbed now and again by the hushed voices of people returning home from a night out.

I wanted to capture the intriguing atmosphere of this place, but also show as much as possible of this very beautiful market square painted in the crisp autumn light at night. So when I rented this apartment together with some friends, I just had to take advantage of the remarkable view of the city hall and take this panorama shot.

This picture unites the sounds of Wroclaw’s past and present perfectly, can you hear them when you look at this scene?
