This photo of the Seljalandsfoss waterfall in Iceland was taken in February just before the first lockdown in Europe. A day in Iceland in winter is extremely short, so this brief sunset was Nico’s last opportunity to contemplate the wild landscape before travel was no longer possible.
Seljalandsfoss is one of the more famous waterfalls in Iceland. It is located on the southern coast just off “Route 1”. Seljalandsfoss is 60 meters high. How huge this waterfall is can be seen by comparing it to people – if you pay attention to the “human figures” in the centre of the photo you will be able to see this perspective.
Just behind the waterfall is a cave that you can enter. In summer, this venture is worthwhile. In winter, however, due to the ice layers, it is advisable to get appropriate footwear and think three times about whether it is safe to do so.
