Evening at Monastiraki | Athens, Greece

Picturesque panorama view of Monastiraki area in Athens, captured in the evening.
View on the Acropolis

Every time I look at this colorful image of Monastiraki area in Athens, it reminds me how charming the old town of the capital of Greece is, especially at twilight. Moreover, you can notice also the Acropolis and other important buildings there.

The vibrant atmosphere of Monastiraki area

As you can see on the picture, this neighborhood is crowded with people. One of the reasons is that it’s a major shopping district. You can find nice boutiques, lovely souvenir shops, and interesting specialty stores there. Most noteworthy, Monastiraki in Athens is the center of bargain trade of the capital and the whole Attica region.

Athens – a vigorous metropolis

As Athens is the largest city and capital of Greece, you can imagine the dynamics of the whole area. Figures from 2016 show that its estimated city population is more than 665,000, but totally 3.75 million live in the metropolitan area of Athens, which is around 1/3 of the Greece population.

When I go through old images, I always find something new and interesting, something I haven’t noticed before. It’s good that we have the photos – they keep our memories alive!
