The day we finally went to experience Dubai Creek we simply had split our workshop group by boarding two different boats. As we sailed across the creek, I noticed sailing boat that I had never seen anywhere else before. It drew my eye, and at that point I just gave it little thought. Just moments later, my phone chimed. Andy, on another boat, had texted: “Hey, did you see the movie set?” It got me at that moment—was that what I had just observed? Turning to my boat driver, I asked him to turn around. We had to check it out.
It became obvious as we got closer—this was not a standard arrangement. Always there, landmarks to Dubai’s past, are the old-style structures lining the creek. Still, this time something was different. Probes—ancient-looking tools, aged items, and rustic decorations that gave the impression of a market scenario from a historical movie. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see a bit of old Dubai come to life in a way never possible on a normal visit.
