Al Khor city | Qatar

The city of Al Khor is located in the north of Qatar – only 57 kilometers from Doha. The town attracts locals, but also tourists eager for sandy beaches and exploring the nearby mangroves.

Al Khor is not just a tourist town, however. 35% of Qatar’s agriculture is concentrated in this district. This is where the farms produce Qatar’s most important vegetables: carrots, potatoes, onions, etc. And if you’re thinking “what’s so special”, it’s worth mentioning that Qatar is mainly desert and farming is an art in itself.

Natural gas was also discovered near Al Khor in 1970. A natural gas processing centre was built nearby in the municipality Ras Laffan. Thanks to this centre, Qatar is not only a major exporter of natural gas, but also the second largest producer of helium in the world.
