Cala Mitjana is one of the most beautiful beaches in Menorca, with unspoiled natural surroundings on the south coast of the island.
This beach is absolutely fantastic, and I would recommend that everyone go there, be it for photos or just to enjoy the sun. Cala Mitjana is actually quite close to Cala Galdana, where we stayed for the PhotoPills camp, but with a very different ambience.
What makes Cala Mitjana so magical?
What is special about Cala Mitjana is this untouched, natural feel in the middle of the Mediterranean, something few places like Menorca can offer. The beach remains largely undeveloped, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in nature.
The cove sits within a rocky bay surrounded by pine trees and limestone cliffs, creating this Balear palette we all love: turquoise, blue, white and green. All colors fully glaring under the midday sun, creating the perfect postcard.
In summer, you can also observe a fun, diverse crowd. Young families enjoying the shallow waters, adventurers in line to jump off a cliff, and friends swimming to the nearby Cala Mitjaneta, a super-tiny cove with just enough room for a handful of people.
Shooting the perfect Menorca postcard
Unlike Cala Galdana, this one can only be reached by hiking, so it’s significantly less crowded and the water is marvelous, as you can see on the image. The hike isn’t difficult, but it’s enough to make a significant difference in the whole atmosphere of the place, as it feels much more raw and natural.
Elevated viewpoints along the cliffs provide stunning panoramic shots, so you won’t have any problems finding “a good angle”. If you walk from here to other beautiful spots like Cala Trebaluger or Cala Escorxada through the famous Cami de Cavalls, the road will also provide you with stunning photos.
For the reasons above, it’s no surprise that Cala Mitjana is one of the most photographed unspoiled beaches in Menorca, and a popular spot for hundreds of tourists during the summer. If you’re aiming for an empty-cove picture, it’s better to go off-season or very early to capture the Menorca coast at sunrise.
Important to know before visiting Cala Mitjana
There are no facilities at the beach, meaning you should bring water, snacks, and sun protection. Accommodation will have to be arranged in one of the nearby towns, like Cala Galdana.
Access requires a short walk of around 20 minutes from the nearest parking area, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
During peak summer months, the beach can become crowded; however, both the sand area and the bathing area are wide. You can easily find a spot.
