I took the cable car to Gubałówka, earlier in the day, anticipating the perfect view and light for my “Zakopane in Winter” shot. I was scouting locations, and during that time, I captured this, similar photo of the Zakopane panorama. As I stood staring out over the town, I said to myself, “Okay, this is it.” That scene gave me the idea to photograph the entire panorama, showcasing Zakopane as a whole against the expansive, magnificent mountain range.
It was still daylight, and the sun was shining beautifully, bathing the snow-covered terrain in a cozy glow. The beautiful covering of snow was perfectly contrasted with the pure, blue sky. Although it was extremely cold, the sun’s warm rays provided some much-needed warmth. When the sun sank below the horizon, the warmth disappeared and the icy cold took hold, and I realized the true difference. That change gave my picture greater emotional depth and helped me to appreciate the day’s warmth even more.
