First Light on the Kraków Main Square | Poland

Kraków Main Square (Rynek Główny). HDR Photo of Sukiennice and the Adam Mickiewicz Monument

The Main Square of Kraków (Rynek Główny) is the central element of the city and no tourist will ever visit Kraków and don’t walk on this square. Obviously that leads to a feeling of overcrowding all day long and you can often here complain from Kraków’s people regarding the masses of tourists.

What can you do? The solution as often: Get up early. In the morning there are cars allowed on the Main Square, but there are much less people around. Definitely, it is much calmer than during the day or evening. Anyways, I was surprised by how many people were up already at such early time. Luckily it was possible to shoot some photos without many people on it.

On this photo you can see the Kraków Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) with the Adam Mickiewicz Monument in the foreground. The sun just made its way over the roofs and throws the town’s silhouette on the walls of the Cloth Hall.

Location: On the main square in Kraków, in front of the Adam Mieckiewicz Monument

Software: Lightroom 4.3, Photoshop CS6, Photomatix Pro

Workflow: In the way of how to take the photo there was not too many issues to take care of. I tried to capture everything through multiple exposures but unfortunately, a few people didn’t want to move.

Tough luck! Well, then I have to do it in the post-processing. First I got rid of some artifacts in the sky and then I took out the few remaining persons. After that I brought more structure to the image and adjusted the colors (the golden light seemed way to artificial fresh out of Photomatix).
