This picture was taken during our one-week stay in Port D’Alcudia in the North of the Balearic Island Mallorca. I already noticed the unique sunsets with their vibrant orange, yellow and red colours during the first couple of evenings we spend in the small Spanish provincial town. I didn’t really have a choice and just had to capture this stunning sight with my camera.
A picture with the very essence of a great holiday
The small parish is a part of the city Alcudia, which got its name from the Arabian word „Al-Qudya“ that translates to „the hills“ and describes the soft and hilly ground on which this historic city was built as early as 2000 B.C. The entire area along the beautiful coastline has a lot to offer. There are not only many historic buildings, like the ruins of the Roman city Pollentia or the Gothic church of St. Anna from the 13th century to explore, but also kilometers of nice sandy beaches.
However, there is no better way to end an eventful day than to sit at the seaside with a nice glass of Spanish red wine and watch the sun turn the water into liquid gold and the mountains into flickering lanterns while it sets. It’s simply one of those moments to take a deep breath and forget everything around you and after all that is the very essence of a great holiday.
