New Town Hall Tower | Leipzig, Germany

New Town Hall Tower in Leipzig
New Town Hall Tower in Leipzig: Germany's largest City Hall Tower is the central piece in Leipzig's skyline.

In Leipzig, you find two Town Halls. Yesterday I showed you the Old Town Hall, today it’s time for the new version. Or specifically, the City Hall Tower of Leipzig’s New Town Hall.

At 114.8 meters or 377 feet, it is the tallest City Hall Tower in Germany. How to capture it well? Let me try my newest piece of gear!

I bought a teleconverter to enhance my possibilities with the telelens. I’m shooting with a 70-200mm, but sometimes you want to zoom in more. So with the converter, I can turn my lens into a 140-400mm beast. I mainly had some shots with zooming in on the moon in mind for this, but when I saw the beautiful light after returning to our hotel room, it was time to give this toy a try.

Suddenly I had so many possibilities of photos, that I couldn’t even see with my eyes directly. The world looks so different if you zoom in and compress the field of view. I had just been shooting for two hours in the City Centre of Leipzig and now knew all the buildings that I was seeing. But the City Hall Tower of the New Town Hall looks very different, depending if you see it from above or below.

Here in this photo, it seems to hover over the skyline of Leipzig. Standing taller than all buildings around it, the New Town Hall Tower certainly offered the best view when it opened in 1905.
