This beautiful rocky limestone coastline, with its calm turquoise water and a scenic lighthouse gives a beautiful spark to this scene – it is one of the most vivid memories that I have of Menorca’s landscape.
This photo of the coast near Cap de Favàritx wasn’t an easy image to capture. I was at this location, together with 39 other photographers, trying to find the perfect composition for the sun setting and the lighthouse behind. After some searching, I found this limestone view that reflected beautifully in the setting sun, a pinkish colour of the sky that strikingly contrasted the cliffs on the Menorca coast.
This setting – Cap de Favàritx is located on the north-east side of Menorca in the “Parc Natural de S’Albufera des Grau”. This part of the coast is known for both sandy beaches and impressive rock formations. The lighthouse in this image is a little difficult to see in the background, but it stands at 47 meters over sea level and it sends the light at a range of 16 nautical miles.
The Favàritx Lighthouse was built close to the same period that the Cap de Cavalleria lighthouse was built, and you may already be aware of this from previous photos. Before the beginning of the 20th century when it began operating, many ships would crash against the rocks on this part of the island. Their wrecks, likely still lay down in the coastline of the Mediterranean sea.
I do wish to have more time to discover the natural park around Cap de Favàritx and to capture it from at a closer distance. I dream that one day I can come back to this location, which as always, sets me in such a meditative mood.
