White Tower light trails | Thessaloniki, Greece

In ancient times on the place of the White Tower there has been a Byzantine fortification. In the 15th century, when the city fell under Ottoman Rule, the construction has been used as a prison and also as a place for mass executions, which explains why its name was ‘The Red Tower’ then. As soon as the Greeks were free from the Ottoman Rule in the beginning of the 20th century, they whitened the construction and gave it the name “The White Tower”, as a symbolic purification from the burden of the past.

St Sebastian in Gesundbrunnen | Berlin, Germany

St Sebastian in Gesundbrunnen | Berlin, Germany

St Sebastian (also called Sebastianskirche) in the Berlin district Gesundbrunnen was constructed in the end of 19th century. It has been more or less random that we passed it but the church was a perfect objective to try out my newest toy, the ND1000 from Haida. The increased exposure time allows for the effect that you can notice on the sky. The church serves as a calm centre in the photo, the clouds add a dynamic layer to it.

Tradition and Modernity | Berlin, Germany

Tradition and Modernity | Berlin, Germany

You can think about the German government whatever you want. But when it comes to the government district it has to be appreciated as a flagship for modern architecture in Berlin. The district is still not completed; right now they again add some new buildings. Inevitably this leads to a strong contrast with the just 10 year old Paul-Löbe-Haus on the one side and the historical Reichstag building on the other.
