Det var d\u00e5 de portugisiska skeppen l\u00e4mnade Europas kuster f\u00f6r att utforska Indien och Orienten.<\/p>\n<p>Historien om detta monument b\u00f6rjade 1939, d\u00e5 det uppf\u00f6rdes inf\u00f6r den portugisiska v\u00e4rldsutst\u00e4llningen. Ursprungligen stod monumentet p\u00e5 Pra\u00e7a do Imp\u00e9rio \u2013 bara n\u00e5gra hundra meter fr\u00e5n d\u00e4r det st\u00e5r idag. Efter utst\u00e4llningen revs statyn. Id\u00e9n att avbilda de portugisiska uppt\u00e4cktsresande togs upp igen 1958, d\u00e5 projektet f\u00f6r det nuvarande monumentet lades fram av ministeriet f\u00f6r offentliga arbeten. Skulpturen skulle fira femhundra\u00e5rsdagen av Infante Henrik Sj\u00f6fararens d\u00f6d. Padr\u00e3o dos Descobrimentos byggdes precis vid Tejoflodens strand, av kalksten fr\u00e5n <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/sv\/travelsintra\/\">Sintra<\/a>-bergen. \u00a0Det nya monumentet var mycket st\u00f6rre \u00e4n det ursprungliga.<\/p>\n<p>Vi hade turen att f\u00e5 se <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/sv\/photo\/stjarnor-over-lissabon\/\">Uppt\u00e4cktsmonumentet<\/a> efter renoveringen, som slutf\u00f6rdes f\u00f6r n\u00e5gra \u00e5r sedan. Denna bild togs under en vinterdag vid soluppg\u00e5ngen, n\u00e4r solen steg precis bakom monumentet och mjukt belyste kalkstensstatyerna.
