Projektet initierades redan 1986 av konstn\u00e4ren <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J%C3%B3n_Gunnar_%C3%81rnason\">J\u00f3n Gunnar<\/a>, som kopplade id\u00e9n bakom Sun Voyager till isl\u00e4ndarnas historia och mytologi.<\/p>\n<h2>Sun Voyager p\u00e5 Island<\/h2>\n<p>Sun Voyager var i allm\u00e4nhet avsedd att representera l\u00f6ftet om ett ouppt\u00e4ckt land, en dr\u00f6m om hopp, framsteg och frihet. I en intervju med \u00dej\u00f3\u00f0viljinn ber\u00e4ttade J\u00f3n Gunnar lite om skulpturens historia och inspirationen fr\u00e5n legenden om isl\u00e4nningarnas ursprung. Enligt denna beskrivning dr\u00f6mde han en dag om ursprunget till det folk som bosatte sig p\u00e5 Island. I denna fantasi var han en av de or\u00e4dda resen\u00e4rerna som kom till <a href=\"https:\/\/sumfinity.com\/category\/hdr-photos\/iceland\/\">Island<\/a> fr\u00e5n Mongoliet hundratals \u00e5r innan han f\u00f6ddes. Denna fantasi skulle dock vara baserad p\u00e5 den sanna historien om en stam som skickades av en stor h\u00e4rskare (till exempel Alexander den store) f\u00f6r att uppt\u00e4cka de l\u00e4nder d\u00e4r solen g\u00e5r upp och som, som ett resultat, bosatte sig i Mongoliet. Efter en tid ville dock \u00e4ttlingarna till dessa modiga krigare, vackra kvinnor och skrivare \u00e5terv\u00e4nda till sitt ursprungliga hemland. S\u00e5 gav de sig iv\u00e4g mot de l\u00e4nder d\u00e4r solen g\u00e5r ner. Efter att ha korsat berg, skogar, floder och \u00f6ar n\u00e5dde de slutligen havets str\u00e4nder. Or\u00e4dda resen\u00e4rer som hoppades n\u00e5 sin ursprungsplats byggde b\u00e5tar och korsade havet. S\u00e5 n\u00e5dde de Island.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6r att hedra minnet av dessa resen\u00e4rers dr\u00f6m om att n\u00e5 Atlanten skissade J\u00f3n Gunnar en design f\u00f6r en b\u00e5t som reser sig ur granit med masten riktad mot den nedg\u00e5ende solen.
