Rynek Market Square and City Hall in Wroclaw, Poland at night

Sounds of Wroclaw | Poland

Wrocław has one of the biggest market squares in Europe and its city hall is the biggest one in Poland. Late at night the city wraps itself in silence and is only disturbed now and again by the hushed voices of people returning home from a night out. I wanted to capture the intriguing atmosphere of this place, but also show as much as possible of this very beautiful market square painted in the crisp autumn light at night.

Basilica–Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza

Postcard from Zaragoza | Spain

Zaragoza turned out to be the positive surprise of our trip to Spain. Many spacious squares, ideal conditions for photography and very interesting architecture. Moreover, the buildings were illuminated throughout all night and long in the morning, while tourists were nowhere to be found at this time. An absolute Dream!

Berlin Cathedral and Television Tower at Alexanderplatz at night

Icons of Berlin | Germany

The Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom): To date, I have not met anyone who didn’t find it very aesthetic. By the way, this largest church of Berlin is a protestant, not catholic one. This fact comes as a surprise for most, but to me the age is more astonishing: Built from 1894 to 1905 the cathedral is just a little over 100 years old – pretty young for such kind of church.

Bode-Museum in Berlin in Black and White

Bode-Museum | Black and White with Colour

The Bode Museum on the Museum Island in Berlin is in my opinion one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. Even though the Museum Island in Berlin was heavily affected by the war, the Bode Museum withstood it relatively good. Here you go with a black/white/orange version of my photo from the Bode-Museum in Berlin.

Semperoper Opera House in Dresden exterior

Semperoper | Dresden, Germany

The Semperoper is probably the most famous opera house in Germany. The reason however, is quite different as one might expect: The Radeberger Group – Germany’s largest brewery group – uses the Opera House for many years in the background of the advertisements for the Radeberger beer. Even if I try to resist any advertising as much as possible, I must admit that it immediately came to my mind as I stood there.

Berlin City West Kurfürstendamm and KaDeWe

City West | Berlin, Germany

If you amble along the Kurfürstendamm or the Tauentzienstraße you can occasionally get a feel for how Berlin must have looked in its Golden 20s. Be it the ladies at the sides of the street, marvelling at handbags that can cost much more than 1,000 euros. Be it the gourmet who goes to the KaDeWe, the glamorous “Department Store of the West” to purchase an exclusive wine for his collection.

Bratislava Skyline - Bridge and Ufo

Independence Day | Bratislava, Slovakia

As the heavens opened up a bit and the UFO was illuminated in the orange light, it seemed to me as if I saw a version of the famous scene from the movie Independence Day – live in Bratislava. Surely, soon the first laser beams would appear across the Danube and raze the city to the ground…

London Canary Wharf and DLR station at Night

Canary Wharf at Night | London, England

Once at Heron Quays station, the illuminated colorful bridge immediately caught our attention. My wide angle lens did not decline the challenge. We just had to wait for the right color since – according to the female advice – pink is the best choice for the photo.

Commerzbank Tower in Frankfurt at full moon

Commerzbank Tower | Frankfurt (Main), Germany

The Commerzbank Tower, built in 1997, was for a few years the highest skyscraper in all Europe and until 2012 the highest of the European Union. With its 257m height (300m including the antenna) and with the strong yellow illumination, the tower is not to oversee all day and night. As I was lucky enough to stand on the Main Tower right next to the office of the Commerzbank, I could capture the tower together with the old town of Frankfurt – even though the old town down there seems so tiny little.
