Frankfurt Skyline

Explode | Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Sometimes I’m just surprised by how a photo works out in the end. As I was up on the Main Tower in Frankfurt a bit earlier than planned, I used the time to try out some positions to find the best angle for the sunset. As I did that, the sun was still too high above the horizon, but why not experiment a bit. One of the experiments was to put the sun right into the center of the shot.

Krakow St. Mary's Basilica

St. Mary’s Basilica | Kraków, Poland

St. Mary’s Basilica on the Main Market Square in Kraków is one of the town’s famous landmarks. Extraordinary are the two unequal towers, the higher one is 81m high, the other one is 12m smaller. According to an ancient legend, the towers were built by two brothers – each worked on one tower.

Altarpiece of the Dresden Frauenkirche in Germany

Altarpiece of the Dresden Frauenkirche | Germany

After the Frauenkirche was totally destroyed in the Second World War, the GDR regime decided to keep the ruins as a memorial. Finally, in 1994 Dresden begun to rebuild the church for more than 10 years. The interior of the Dresden Frauenkirche is very different from what I know of other churches. Much lighter, very friendly and kept in pastel colors. That results in a great contrast of the colors to the golden altarpiece and organ.

Forest in the Ore Mountains close to Mariánská, Czech Republic

Ore Mountains | Mariánská, Czech Republic

Last May we celebrated the 80th birthday of my Grandma with a trip to her birthplace. Even though there was pretty much nothing left of the old houses – the nature stayed the same. Luckily the sun came through the cloudy sky at least from time to time. Here it was just enough to set up the tripod and take the photograph of the amazing forest in the Ore Mountains.

The Old Town of Bucharest is full of contrasts. Ruins and poverty in the Romanian capital right next to hotels and luxury.

City of Contrasts | Bucharest, Romania

When I prepared myself for the trip to Romania, I often stumbled upon the word “contrasts” connected to Bucharest. How often can you drink a (surprisingly expensive) beer in front of a ruin? This photo is taken right in the Old Town of Bucharest and I think you get a feeling for what I mean with “contrasts”. Just a few streets further they build a new 5-star Hotel.

HDR Photo of Brandenburg Gate in Berlin from the West side

Brandenburg Gate – West | Berlin, Germany

Most photos that you’ll see from the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin are taken from its eastern side. However, the western side of Brandenburg Gate has two advantages for photographers. For one thing you can capture the colors of the rising sun (it’s no fun to shoot a sunset at Brandenburg Gate, too many tourists) and for another thing you can catch some light trails of the passing cars.

Dar Pomorza in Gdynia. HDR Photo of the Museum Ship in Poland

Dar Pomorza | Gdynia, Poland

This beauty is over 100 years old. It was built in Hamburg in 1909. For many years the Dar Pomorza was used as a training ship and today you can still see it in the port of Gdynia where it serves as a Museum ship.

Classical example of Italian Architecture. This house stands on top of Bergamo with view over the valley and Alps

Italian Architecture in Bergamo

This photo stands for so many reasons why I love Italy. Starting with the landscape: From up there in Bergamo you have perfect view over the mountains, the beginnings of the Alps. With clear sky our view seemed to be unlimited. And then there is this typical, Italian architecture. Is anybody not dreaming about living one day in such Italian mansion?

The Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest in sunlight. HDR Photo from Romania.

Palace of the Parliament | Bucharest, Romania

The Palace of the Parliament, the biggest building of Europe, you will inevitably pass once you’re in Bucharest. The immense building stands at the end of the long and wide Unirii-Boulevard and it is hard to show its size on a photo. The Palace is so big that I had problems to capture it in a single photo even with my wide-angle lens.

Zakopane and Tatra Mountains at Night from Gubalowka Hill. HDR Photo from Poland

Glowing Zakopane | Poland

The lanterns in Zakopane were still shining bright as we walked up to Gubałówka hill in total darkness. We arrived just in time on a plateau from which you had a good view over the town without having to climb up the whole mountain. The sun was still under the horizon, but you started to notice the first light.
