When we arrived in New York, I quickly missed some nature. Yes, there is Central Park, but not from everywhere that’s quick to reach. In
If you’ve ever been to Portugal, you probably know “Azulejo” very well. These are colourful tiles that are used to decorate buildings, palaces, churches, schools, etc. They are usually of different forms and tints. It was a big surprise for us to discover that in actual fact, the primary purpose of Azulejo, was a practical and not a decorative one.
The Gloriette ensemble located up on the hill and The Neptune Fountain are part of the park surrounding Schönbrunn Palace – a must-see in Vienna. The outcome of this picture was more than what I had expected. The air on this day was hazy because of the heat, however, this haziness gave a glow to the marble statues on The Fountain and The Gloriette itself creating such a beautiful canvas.
This small Orthodox church of St. George is the oldest church in the capital of Montenegro. It is situated on Gorica hill (‘Gorica’ in Montenegrin means small hill and ‘pod-gorica’ means literally under small hill). When we visited this site, the church itself was closed – so we couldn’t admire the famous frescos inside.
In my photograph, you will see “Palacio de Cristal” inspired by The Crystal Palace in London, United Kingdom. It was built together with the artificial pond, a little later than other ensembles of the park and exactly in 1887. From the beginning, Crystal Palace was used to display flower species from Spain.
The name of the Vinohrady district of Prague literally means ‘vineyards’ in English. While nowadays this is an urban area, in the middle ages this land was covered in vineyards. On the photo you can also see the Roman Catholic Church “Nejsvětějšího Srdce Páně” or “Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord”. Another significant city sight, visible here, is the Žižkov Television Tower, adding a high-tech touch to the landscape.
At the bottom of the famous Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia you find the KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) Park, which was designed by Roberto Burle Marx and is an absolute must-see when visiting the Malaysian capital. The park area measures about 20 hectares and offers many walkways, playgrounds and picnic areas, but its biggest attraction is the 10,000 m² big man-made lake, Lake Symphony with a 43 meter long bridge spanning across the water.
