Porto Felgueiras Lighthouse is located on the Douro mouth, just before the river enters the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the closeness of the ocean, it often caused the waves to become enormous.

We visited this beach and chapel with friends one sunny winter Sunday (typical weather in Portugal). The tide was low, so we could walk around the “Capela” without even soaking our shoes. We were very lucky this day because when the tide was high, the small church would be surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean waves and so it can be very difficult to enter.

The waves on this particular day were enormous. We watched in awe; hypnotised with the rhythms from our restaurant view. When I was walking around the open pools at sunset, I saw a family standing under the Bajamar’s lighthouse. It was one of those magical moments, which screamed an immediate capture.

During our stay in the heavenly Berjaya Langkawi Resort on the Malaysian Island Langkawi, I decided to give the impressive art of astrophotography a go and it seems I couldn’t have picked a more beautiful night for my first try. When looking at the image afterwards, I was especially surprised and fascinated by the illuminated purple firmament, which gave a certain magical feel to starry night sky.
