Street art | Lisbon, Portugal

This bee isn’t graffiti, this is a trash installation… A Portuguese artist, Bordalo II creates these wall sculptures around Lisbon as a reminder of the consequences of the consumer – orientated lifestyles that exists.

Bordalo II says about himself that he belongs to a generation that is “extremely consumerist, materialist and greedy”. We produce more waste than the earth can handle or that humans can recycle. This is why his street art is made from end-trash that is – old bumpers, elements from old factories, objects that people have disposed of and forgotten about. By using such constellations, Bordalo II seeks attention for the global ecological issues that concerns the planet.

This bee by Bordalo II is not difficult to find. It is located near the Cantina restaurant that was mentioned in my previous post about FX Factory. There are more of these sculptures with various other animals in Lisbon and some are more challenging to find. If you’re a street art lover, I can only recommend that you wander around Lisbon to find more of these beauties.
